Cat with allergies (cambridge)

My cat has the same issue and I brought her to different vets looking for an answer. Initially they made me change her diet, it didn't help. Then they prescribed steriods which seemed to help but I have read alot of negative things about giving a cat steroids for long periods of time. It also seems to make her irritable and sluggish. Finally, I brought her to City Cats in Arlington where they did allergy testing (not cheap $300+). The results are that she is severely allergic to dust mites. They prescribed hypoallergenic bedding throughout my house, constantly washing blankets, etc, anything she sleeps on, HEPA air purifiers in my home and allergy shots ($300 for 3 months). Alot of money for a cat. I have not started the allergy shots yet as I would eventually have to start giving them to her myself (or pay a $40 office visit each time). Eventually the shots would be given less and less until she built up immunity. That could take years. I am at the point where I think I have to do this, despite the expense and my squeamishness about giving shots, so that the poor cat doesn't go crazy. I know how frustrated you are. If you have the cash, you might want to invest in the allergy testing but be prepared for an expensive solution.
