Our Mission: Flatley Discovery Lab (FDL) is a not-for-profit Cystic Fibrosis research lab. We are interested in the implementation of standard and novel assays with the objective of identifying small drug-like molecules and their mechanism of action to treat the core defect in cystic fibrosis. Our focus is centered around chemical compounds that have the potential to correct for the underlying physiological defect induced by mutations in the Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Regulator (CFTR) - a chloride ion channel mainly found in epithelial tissues.
• The senior scientist will have an excellent understanding of general protein biochemistry, protein expression and purification, and is expected to oversee existing assays, and establish novel capabilities in the lab.
• The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field and at least five years research experience.
• Additional preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in: cystic fibrosis, especially assays measuring CFTR activity, protein folding diseases, ion channel biology, or membrane-spanning proteins.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology, and standard biochemical assays (e.g. Western, ELISA, enzymatic, cytotoxicity) required.
• Experience with measuring drug-protein binding and interactions, biophysical measurements (fluorescence, SPR, calorimetry), assay development and scale-up to an automated process is highly desirable.
• The scientist will supervise three associate scientists, and lead lab safety compliance.
• Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills required.
