JOB TITLE: Developmental Specialist
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing supervision and direct care services to individuals attending day habilitation programs; also responsible for maintaining documentation in accordance with Medicaid regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitor individuals during occupational skills training sessions. Assess skills and provide training. Monitor and implement behavior programs. Maintain documentation of services.
• Plan and lead 1:1 and small and large group activities for individuals in the program and in the community. Maintain documentation of services. Implement specific treatment as applicable, (i.e., range of motion, muscle strength, muscle relaxation and facilitation, balance, oral-muscular feeding, perceptual-motor integration, wheelchair and transfer technique. Fabricating and maintaining adaptive and assistive devices, ADL’s, etc. (including toileting).
• Documentation of services provided in specific groups and activities, and relative to behavioral plans. Write assessments, objectives, and progress reports as required for ISP process. Complete monthly progress notes for caseload.
• Meet with individuals on caseload as indicated. Provide crisis intervention. Oversee implementation of ISP goals and attend ISP meetings. Communicate with families/residential staff as appropriate.
• Develop and implement curriculum for small group and 1:1 activities. Maintain records/documentation of services.
• Work in conjunction with program consultants (speech, O.T., behavior specialist, PT, as applicable) to provide and monitor specialized services. May supervise student interns as appropriate (COTA, etc.)
EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in the Human Services field from an accredited institution preferred, with at least 1 year of experience relative to mental retardation or mental health. May consider at least two years of experience in a training program for either mental retardation or mental health. Requires acceptable results of CORI check according to the Agency policy and DMR requirements.
