ok so i hate trying to find bandmates on craigslist... A LOT.

that said, here i am looking for like-minded people to start a band with or whatever.
i want to play music, with others. i want to play with people that need to play music, not people that want to be rockstars. okay but here's the catch.. i want people that are pretty serious about making some good music. not looking for the casual jam once a month. i don't care about great gear. i don't care about instrumentation. I JUST WANT TO PLAY! oh and I also don't want to be the only person into it enough to do anything.

i don't want to play metal, nickleback type crap or anything with screaming at all. some kind of indie rock, folk, brit pop type thing or one of those would be cool...acoustic guitars are cool.

Is your band too busy in the studio working on a new album to worry about updating an old bio for your revamped website? Or perhaps you’re a new band who needs a biography drafted for a press kit or website/myspace page?

We are an indie firm specializing in crafting EXTRAORDINARILY affordable biographies of all brand and genre, whether you’re a rock, pop, metal or jazz band, or an actor or newscaster seeking an updated bio for your headshot/resume. Our prices will beat ANY competition, and the attention and experience you’ll receive as a client makes us the best bargain going around your town. If you bring us any competing price from another P.R. firm, we’ll beat it, and offer quicker turn-around time!

Our team of writers have a lengthy background working with both newcomers as well as established talent across the entertainment sub-genres of film, music, newscasting, book publishing and a host of related fields. We will be happy to provide samples of ‘name’ client projects we have worked on prior to any commitment on your part, and pledge to work on refining any client bio until you’re 100% satisfied with the result!

Right now, we’re running a new-client special of a 375 word (page and a half) biography for $25.00, which falls WELL below the $75-100 average most P.R. firms charge for this service and bio-length. If interested, please email back at writemybiography@yahoo.com for further details!

bassists or multi-instrumentalists looking for a band?(original songs) (Cambridge)

So here's the obnoxious yet obligatory list of
musical influences:

The National
The Walkmen
Radiohead (at this point it seems like a cliche to include them but it's true)
Wilco
Broken Social Scene
Neil Young
Tortoise
Two Gallants
Dirty Projectors
The Slip
etc... (too many more to name and I'm probably forgetting some essentials)

we also listen to a lot of jazz and classical music...

Anyway, right now we have two guitarists (one who sings) and drums and
we're looking for a bass player. One of our guitars can play bass too so
we're open to the idea of bringing in another guitarist who could trade
off on the bass.

We just moved to the area so at the moment we're working on writing new
songs but when we play live we're open to mixing in the occasional cover.
Also, we're quite democratic about song-writing so if you write your own
songs we'd definitely love to hear them and work on them.

Hey There!

My band, The Gibbs, is playing a sorority fundraiser (no money, but lots of girls) at Harper's Ferry on 10/28 at 10 pm. We need a drummer right now! We're going to play for an hour -- half covers, half originals. It's going to be a damn good time, but we'll need to practice a lot in the coming weeks. We practice in Brighton and the gig is in Allston. Hit me up! 516-220-2337.

I'm a 36 year old musician and have played in several bands over the years, the last though was a good 6 or 7 years ago. I compose film scores now along with working as a freelance illustrator/designer and live just outside Boston in the Metrowest region but not looking to pigeon hold myself to that location for finding others to work with.

What I'm hoping to do here is meet some interesting musicians to possibly collaborate/form group with. I do love analog stuff, still have some great stuff lying around, but these days I'm mostly working on Logic Pro as a foundation to create music. Ideally I would like to find another musician that compliments my sensibilities, which are diverse and work together on creating something. Possibly even do some commercial & film work together and build that direction, but mostly focus on the creative. I find composing music solely on one's own exhaustingly isolating and given I paint all day alone, some camaraderie would be appreciated on the music front.

I also and/or would like to play out again in a band if it was the right situation. Traditionally I've played bass in bands, but I'm open to going to the keyboard route if it makes sense. I'm going to list some bands that while by no means define the kind of music I wish to pursue, is at least a good starting point to show my sensibilities.

I have appeared in The Boston Globe, The Boston Phoenix, The Noise (Winner Of The 2004 and 2005 Noise Poll for Boston's Best Guitarist), Guitar World, and Guitar Player For The Practicing Musician.

Lessons are taught in South Boston/ Fort Point close to the South Station T stop.
learn

Harmony (theory, chord construction, reharm techniques, sub V's, modal ideas)
Ear training (through song transcription and excersises)
Songwriting (harmoinc and melodic development, lyric writing and arranging)
Fretboard mechanics (mastery of the fretboard)
and more...

"Tony is a great guitar teacher and a joy to work
with. I am very grateful to have taken lessons
from him. I tried several guitar teachers before
him, and I was almost ready to give up trying to
find a good teacher with the right skills and who
could teach me how to play the kind of music that
I wanted to play. Tony understood exactly what I
was looking for and he knew how to get me moving
in that direction. Tony has a great personality,
he really listens, and he has very effective
approaches to learning how to play the guitar.
It was everything I hoped for and more."
 -- Fred Sena

"I've been playing the guitar for 10 or so years and I was very proud
of the fact that I have never taken any lessons. However, for the
past few years I've found myself stuck playing the same patterns,
chords, and solos over and over again. I watched a great friend of
mine go from being a pretty mediocre (hey, he'll be the first to admit
it!) guitarist to being able to rip through any Clapton solo and
Sultans of Swing after taking some lessons with Tony, so I figured I'd
give it a shot. After only a few lessons I found myself moving around
the fretboard with much more confidence and I was playing things I
never thought I'd be able to play. Whether you're a crusty old
seasoned cocky guitar player like myself or someone who's just getting
started, Tony will give you the chops you need." Bennett Kolasinski

"Tony is patient, encouraging, and entertaining---he rocks! Never having prior lessons, all I expected was to learn one song but he's helped me to surpass that goal and to appreciate more about music than I had ever imagined. I always leave the guitar lesson happier than I walked in!" -

Sherri Smith

"I was playing guitar like s&*t, and everyone knew it. I was ham-fisted,
and a drunkard to boot. Then I went to Tony, with this challenge:
teach me to play guitar, or I'll eat feces. For short money, he has - by
god - taught me to play guitar, and saved me from eating feces. I love
Tony." - Moon Mullins

"When you take lessons with Tony, you're not just taught chords so you can play a Van Halen or a Nirvana riff. You're taught the fundamentals in a way that you become familiar, almost in tune with your guitar. If you find any other knucklehead that can do that, I'll pay for your lessons. Actually, I won't, but you should take lessons with Tony anyway. He's that good." - Jessica Green

"Tony kicks the most ass of any guitar teacher out there. He is patient and encouraging, but in no time will have you playing things you didn't think you could play. He will give you a good music foundation while letting you learn the music you like the most. If you're serious about playing guitar, he's the man." - Ami E Albernaz

"I have been taking lessons from Tony for about 4 months now, and to say I have gone far beyond what I expected would be an understatement. He seems to have an innate feel for what the student is capable of, then reaches just beyond, to get the most from you...... I have not had one lesson where I did not come away feeling that I achieved something..." - Alan D.

"I've studied under four different guitar teachers and Tony is the first one that's been able to clearly explain how the different parts - key signature, chord progressions, scale patterns, picking technique - all fit together. My first lesson was six weeks ago and the guys in my band have already noticed a huge difference." - Glen Goland

"I have been going to Tony for lessons since this past spring and my playing has improved tremendously. He has helped me work on my left hand technique, improve my picking, introduced me to new approaches to playing various types of licks, and has helped me with my approach to learning other artist's songs. On top of that, Tony is an excellent teacher, an amazing player, and extremely easy to get along and work with" -David Schwartz

"Tony is a wonderful teacher. I've only been taking lessons with him for three months, and had never touched a guitar before - now I'm starting to play my favorite songs! Not only do I learn the techniques and theory, but also how to develop an ear for the music, which is amazing, considering I had always thought I was tone-deaf. Tony keeps me motivated; he is patient, yet perceptively authoriative. Plus, his irresistible Sicilian wit makes the whole thing so much fun!" - Anneke Boese

"If you're looking for an instructor who will take you to the next level based on where you are musically, Tony is your man, he has a great talent for identifying and teaching you what you need to get where you want to go." - Dave Yanolis

High-end mastering houses invest heavily in hand-picked analog equipment to enhance your mixes. That is the same approach taken at Trakworx Recording and Mastering, and it pays off!

Over 1,200 projects mastered.

I keep my operating costs low so I can keep my rates affordable. Quality mastering doesn't have to cost so much. Try having 1 song mastered and see how you like it. What have you got to lose?

I use world class analog tube equalizers and tube compressors (plus several "secret weapons") to fine-tune and enhance your mixes. I can incorporate 1/2" 2 track tape to add that warm, smooth, classic analog tone. Your songs are then recorded into Pro Tools HD at 24 bits through a Burl B2 Bomber audiophile analog to digital converter for superior audio quality. They can be edited as needed. Levels are balanced, and highest quality digital limiting (no plug-ins) is applied to get your music up to industry standards for volume. I am an experienced engineer. I'll make sure you get the best possible sound at a fraction of the cost. More info. here: http://www.trakworx.com

Hi there,

Are you looking for a professional jazz band for your party or event? Akousma band is the band for you. We have a five-hour repertoire of songs, also recently we published our first CD album “Here and There” with our own original compositions. Our CD is available on itunes as well as other major websites. Our music includes both standards (with our arrangements) in the style of primarily Jazz as well as our own original compositions. Some of the music styles we play are: Jazz, Funk, Latin, Fusion, World and Brazilian. Pricing and further information upon request. You can also check the following websites to get a better idea about our band:

Biography:

Akousma's original members are Stavros Kartakis (Greece) and George Lernis (Cyprus). During studies at Berklee College of Music, they decided to start jamming on a regular basis. At first, the repertoire consisted of standards, but soon original compositions were added. The following year, auditions for a bassist took place. Hiro Sakaba (Japan) was the perfect match: His playing was original, contemporary and from the very beginning he enriched the tunes with his unique ideas.

In 2007 it was time to get ready for the first album. While rehearsing, the trio decided to find a clarinet player for a handful of tunes. Due to great technical abilities as well as his creative playing, Linus Wyrsch (Switzerland), a friend of Stavros, was chosen for the job. First rehearsals showed that he would fit perfectly with the rest of the band which was now ready to roll.

After recording their Debut CD "Here and There", Akousma added its most recent member, pianist Petros Sakelliou (Greece). Although starting as a substitute for Stavros, his skills blended so nicely that it was not long before he became a regular.

Akousma is primarily a Jazz Band, but it is not a rarity to hear them play Latin, Funk and other styles. What makes Akousma contemporary and unique, is an unusual instrumentation as well as a distinctive sound. Their first album called "Here and There" was recorded and mixed by Andreas Trachonitis at Mix One studios in Boston and released on January 15th 2008. It contains six original compositions by George Lernis and Stavros Kartakis.

Our 22 song demo tells a story about nomads. It fits on one CD. We made it on ‘garageband.’ It’s not a musical or a rock opera—it’s more like an epic poem sung in a variety of ways (i.e.: rock, country, folk, reggae, Amerindian, sea chanties, work songs, ballads, punk, blues, gospel, Sousa, Scots-Irish, disco, Roma, Arab, and ska.) Many lyrics... not many choruses; not many 'solos.'
mP3s NOT NOT NOT available in this phase. This is theater.
A dancer or two will be integral to the group/show. The usual instruments are welcome, but also the unusual. I could get tired of looking for more musicians and flip the ratio, meaning maybe there'll only be a few musicians and dancers would be in the majority.
At the minimum, I’d like someone to play guitar and/or keyboard to free me up more as a frontman. I’m open to there being other front people. All racial, national, ethnic, and artistic backgrounds welcome. After the demo is released (in an unusual way) the first shows follow in late January/early February. Then, sharpened by having put on the shows, we'll do the songs LIVE in a good studio to make the 'real' CD. We rehearse in our 'worker's cottage' --3 blocks from Central Sq.-- soon.

Busy Indie-Rock Band Seeks Committed Drummer (Greater Boston Area)

Busy Boston indie-rock band seeks drummer with full availability for gigging. We are a young, committed group of musicians who want to take our music as far as it can go, both creatively and professionally.

We need someone who is not only a creative, incredible drummer, but someone who has the flexibility to tour, play around the Northeast on weeknights, and the ambition to be up for a show anytime, anywhere. In other words, someone whose first priority in life is music and being part of a successful band. Music is the focus of our entire lives and we need a drummer with equal drive, as we are building our band one fan at a time.

Our sound mixes current indie, proto-punk, glam, and new wave to create intense, high-energy original music--we usually describe ourselves as Pat Benatar meets The Raconteurs or The Killers. Our influences include Pat Benatar, David Bowie, R.E.M., Radiohead, Blondie, Television, U2, Interpol, PJ Harvey, Arcade Fire, The Clash.

You must have your own gear, a professional attitude, live playing experience, and the willingness to go on some adventures. Your own car for in-town travel would be great, but not a must, as we have a van. Singing ability would also be ideal.

We can give more details, videos, and song samples when you respond.

Hi,

So I have this crazy dream...here it is:

A Radiohead cover band. 1-2 guitars, bass, drums, keys/synth, vocals. I'm a vocalist only (female), and would love to swap off lead vocals and backup/harmonies with a 2nd vocalist (preferably male).

I have no equipment, no practice space, nothing to offer but an idea and some experience singing in another amateur band. But figured I'd throw it out there and see if anyone responds. I'm located in the South Shore but willing to travel some.

Thanks!

We have a sousaphone emergency, and we need your help.

This weekend, Oct 10-12, it’s the third annual HONK! Festival of activist street bands in Davis Square, and we’ve got a bunch of out-of-town tuba players who need to borrow sousaphones to play and parade for the weekend. If you live in the Boston area and you, or anyone you know, has a good working Bb or Eb sousaphone we could borrow (or rent cheap) for our players, we would be grateful. Just send a message to tubas@honkfest.org

Oh, and if you play sousaphone yourself, or any other horn, or a drum or other acoustic instrument you can parade with, we would be delighted if you would come play with us. There will be a pick-up band rehearsal on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm, and then a performance in the big HONK! parade on Sunday. Details can be found at http://honkfest.org .

Looking for a skilled devotee with an adventurous approach: someone who can play the hell out of their instrument, but who’s capable of more than just rocking out on blues scales and solos. We need someone to do cool sounds and textures as well - while still always playing for the song. Additional instruments or vocals a big plus.

We need someone who’s punk rock but reliable, and doesn’t have a ton of other commitments; a cool person with a flexible schedule, who’s completely dedicated to music and is fun to hang out with. Also, most of our shows are in bars and clubs - so please be over 21!

We practice Thursdays and Saturdays - at a spacious loft studio in Union Square in Somerville, with a drum kit, PA, piano, and free parking.
Interested?

Hit me back and I’ll send you some mp3s!

DRUMMERS -- Improve Your Overall Drum Set Sound ! (Boston/Metro)

DRUMMERS: How would you like to get the most out of your practice sessions, improve your technique, your sight reading skills and your overall drum set sound, especially as it relates to match grip and traditional grip styles?

Simply put - Balanced Hands represents a concentrated process in achieving equal hand development. It endeavors to realize this through a consolidated series of materials presented in an elevated progression. The approach is both simplistic and practical given its attention to the pacing of the material, practice time, muscle development, technique and musical application. It makes for a more efficient and productive practice session. The concept is designed to develop both the dexterity and flexibility of and between the right and left hands, namely, matched grip style. A greater sense of freedom and execution are enhanced, issues of right side versus left side are dissolved, and the playing process realizes itself as one smooth, continuous motion.

For those of you who already play match grip style, the approach will greatly help to advance your playing process. For those of you that have made the crossover or are contemplating switching from traditional to match grip style, this approach will help you come up to speed in a relatively short period of time. And, for those of you who feel comfortable with traditional grip, this approach will benefit your musical needs as well.

Given today’s musical trends and the growing demands in the drummers’ marketplace, the material presented in this writing will, in the short-term, help one to meet these needs, and, in the long-term, advance one’s own musical process.

About me: Former Berklee Professor with a Master of Music Degree in Jazz Composition and Performance from New York University. I am currently accepting students. All levels are more than welcomed including beginners. I’m in and around the Boston/Cambridge area with access to the Newton, Belmont, Waltham, and Watertown areas. Will travel depending on the situation. Outside the area, please leave your info and I will follow up with you.

Lessons are reasonably priced to accommodate all levels of proficiency. They are very productive and informative. Areas of study include: all drum set-related styles, as well as, improvisation, technical skills, sight reading, chart reading for large and small group settings and snare drum-related repertoire. All materials are adaptable to accommodate every level of development.

Balanced Hands (Volume I of my collected works) and Independent Sense (Volume II) are currently in print. Both are major works. Vol. III (Equal Hand Development / Approaching Ambidexterity) and Vol. IV (Motion Patterns for the Drum Set / Book 1) are currently in print.

Interested drummers (and that includes you the serious drummer), please respond to the above email address or call Tony Noterfonzo at (617) 794-6331. I look forward to working with you soon. Thank you, Tony
Very experienced Guitar, Bass, Drums & Vocals seek Rhythm Guitar for soon-to-be-working cover band in the Boston area. We have about two-dozen songs down from artists such as:

• Van Halen

Looking for someone with excellent chops, gear and stage presence; someone who can play well with another guitarist and has a good ear. Vocals a plus.

We like to keep it serious and professional. Originals are not out of the question. Our ages are early 40s and we welcome inquiries of ANY AGE to reply and try out. Practice 1-2x/week and the goal is to gig at least once per month. There is the possibility of a gig in November.

I play the guitar (but who doesn't?). I love the blues and blues rock, Clapton, the ORIGINAL Fleetwood Mac, BB King... I'd like to start playing something like the Black Keys (keeping it simple) and maybe we could work our way up from there. I'm in college so our practice space would be limited, I've got a little room, but not enough(maybe if someone had an electric drumkit). Looking for a bassist, drummer with rehearsal space, maybe a 2nd guitar (someone who is a good rhythm and is breaking into soloing, so we could switch off). Also open to suggestions for other instruments. Also interested in doing some post-rock type stuff, but that's on the side. I live right on Boston Common, can travel a little.
