OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The Visual Designer is responsible for planning, analyzing, and creating visual solutions to communications problems. The designer will use a variety of methods such as color, type, illustration, photography, animation, and various print and layout techniques to develop compelling presentations. He or she will work with scientists, Communications staff, and Broad Museum personnel to develop material for print publications, Web pages, interactive media, and multimedia projects.
CHARACTIERISTIC DUTIES
- Works closely with Communications staff to "translate" scientific concepts into accurate and compelling designs and graphical representations
- Plans projects by gathering relevant information through meetings with scientists, writers, creative director, and performing self-guided research
- Prepares sketches and layouts to illustrate vision for design; selects colors, photography, animation, type style, and other visual elements for the design
- Lends graphics expertise to Broad staff and provides graphics support to the Broad internal and external websites
- Develops and maintains deadlines for one-time and recurring projects
- Oversees freelance artists and manages vendor relationships as needed
- Contributes to other projects as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in visual/design field and at least 3 years of professional experience
- Solid information design abilities, fastidious and efficient production habits, and impeccable problem solving skills, as well as a background in or familiarity with biology and/or genetics
- Needs to know Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator inside and out; familiarity with desktop publishing, InDesign and Flash preferred
- Must be self-motivated, a good communicator, comfortable with following directions, and able to balance great design with constraints
- Must be able to produce work on tight deadlines, when needed
- Able to produce results independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment

The Position
Artaic’s spring internship is designed to introduce students to the workings of a start-up company environment. Students
will receive meaningful hands-on experience in a highly collaborative, creative and innovative atmosphere. Artaic’s
internship will provide students with relevant resume and portfolio building job experience that will increase their value to
potential employers.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of tasks including but not limited to:
• Mosaic design and fabrication
• Assisting in marketing material design such as brochures, postcards, web pages, catalogs, and portfolios
• Assisting in client presentations
• Writing press releases
• Event planning and management
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
• Be well versed in Adobe Creative Suite programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
• Self-starter with a passion for design and art
• Have knowledge of, or desire to learn about, the production of mosaic art
• Have excellent communication skills and a team-oriented work ethic
• Be entrepreneurial with high energy and hard working style and the ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
Additional Desired Traits:
• Web design and coding ability
• Experience or aptitude in interior design
• Experience in the high-end architectural surface finishing industries (tile, carpet, wall paper, etc.)
• Experience with tile installation
