Cheng & Tsui, a Boston-based educational publisher specializing in Asian studies and language learning is seeking an experienced Print & Web Designer. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, hard-working team with the shared goal of increasing the companys visibility, audience engagement, and market penetration. The ideal candidate is a creative champion with excellent visual design skills and a solid understanding of both web and print production, concept development, branding, and typography. You are able to transform marketing objectives into creative solutions and understand how the creative process ties into business strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design mailers, catalogs, sell sheets, postcards, ads, logos, CD and DVD labels, DVD cases, and conference materials from concept through print production
Create a consistent brand identity; develop a company style guide
Lead a complete redesign of the company website
Apply the latest trends and techniques in print and web design
Develop dynamic web campaigns, segmented email blasts, e-newsletters, and landing pages to generate leads and drive traffic
Ensure that the layout of web content and navigation is intuitive and logical
Design companion websites for textbook series and teacher resources
Conceptualize and design book covers; occasionally assist with interior design and layout
Adjust archived cover and text files for reprints as necessary
Organize and manage image library and artwork; archive project files systematically
Troubleshoot design-related issues that arise during production
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum three years print and web design experience on the client side or at an agency
Project management skills; ability to set and meet deadlines and balance multiple projects
Understanding of visual and typographical hierarchies, and brand strategies
Problem solving experience with cross-browser and various email clients
Some experience creating and editing audio and video files
Comfortable in a matrix-structured environment with a diversity of projects
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; must be a team player and be able to develop and maintain relationships with both staff and vendors
Must be organized, self-motivated, and extremely detail oriented
Proficiency in Adobe CS4, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, Flash, Premiere, After Effects, and PowerPoint
Thorough understanding of standard web technologies, including HTML/XML, CSS, and some JavaScript
Familiarity with Drupal, Wordpress, or other CMS platforms
Experience creating original hand and electronic illustrations a plus
B.F.A./B.A. in art or design related field, or equivalent
Knowledge of an Asian language and/or interest in Asian languages and cultures a plus
