Hello, we are a professional couple living close to Coolidge Corner, Brookline Village and Washington Square.

We are looking for someone to care for our two children ages 9 and 6 for a maximum of 3 days per week, generally Mon/Tues/Wed, and the occasional weekend evening as well. Although care of the children will be primary, we may also ask for some help with light housekeeping and food preparation.

Flexibility would be helpful, as the hours might vary, but we will guarantee to pay a minimum number of hours per week. Some mornings we may need someone to arrive at the house by 6:30 a.m. and/or in the afternoons stay until 6:00 p.m. On other days we may require morning or afternoon only. Ideally, you would live within walking distance of our home.

The job would also include walking our children to school in the morning and then picking up in the afternoon (20 minutes walking time each way).

Is it ANY of anyone's business where parents consider a safe environment for their children? Parents are the best people to know where their children would be better off because they want the best for their children. PLUS, I have a little brother who went to a "LICENSED DAY CARE" when he was 2, and he was being PHYSICALLY ABUSED by the LICENSED DAY CARE PROVIDER!!! The licensed provider's daughter who was 4 said "my mommy hit him when he was crying." My brother would cry uncontrollably when going into the day care and was losing weight because he wouldn't eat a crumb of anything. So it makes me angry to hear these stupid comments and the "importance of having a license". A daycare can be licensed, but behind closed doors, who knows what goes on??? I have a 16 month old son and I babysit a 5 month old girl fulltime, where I take my son with me. But when my son was 11 months I had to leave him every now and then with a babysitter and I chose a NON-Licensed day care provider who was great. After leaving my son, I went back to pick him up 8 hours later and I thought he was going to cry when he saw me, but he actually wanted to stay! She has about 5 children she watches after and all of them call her "mommy" and they cry when their parents go pick them up because they love it there.
I know several of non-licensed providers who are friends of mine and are excellent. So having a license doesn't mean a thing. If you're a bad provider, you're a bad provider with or without a license.
I'd choose a SAHM over a "Licensed" Day Care Center any day! And when my son turns 3, I'll put him in pre-school (HEAD START) which over rules everything!
