On exhibit from April 29 - May 23 at the Brookline Arts Center: an exhibition by artist/illustrator Raul Gonzalez called “Philosophical Tales”. These drawings were made to illustrate a book on philosophy, showing the lives, writing and ideas of philosophers in a way that is edgy, and sometimes witty, or downright funny.
This exhibition is interesting to anyone who has ever studied history or philosophy: you’ll think about Plato, St. Thomas Aquinas and the Existentialists in a while new way! The artist –Raul Gonzalez –was born in El Paso, Texas, and taught himself how to draw in a variety of styles that are based on both fine art and the history of cartooning.
Now, he is a founding member of the Miracle Five artists collaborative, who now teaches at the Boston architectural college, School of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Brookline Arts Center.
Philosophical Tales runs from April 29 – May 23, 2008, there will be a closing reception where you can meet the artist on Friday, May 23, 6-8pm. He will also be teaching “The Basics of Drawing ” this summer at the Brookline Arts Center and registration is going on now.
The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street in Brookline, Massachusetts. For more information please visit www.brooklineartscenter.com or call 617-566-5715.
