Sell Design Teams to Product Companies
More product companies than ever before are hiring engineering firms, like ours, to design their new products. We specialize in the mechanical engineering side, meaning that we figure out the sheet-metal, plastics, motors/gears, machining, etc. The outside plastics of a video game box, the exact position of the internal electronics of a laptop, the pneumatic/hydraulic system in an espresso machine, the spring used in a surgery tool or the brake system of an electric car are the challenges with the products that companies hire us to figure out and then oversee production.
This Business Development/Technical Sales role meets with prospects and partners to identify and close new design project bids in the $50K-$250K range. Our teams in Cambridge, MA, Silicon Valley and China support sales and then perform the engineering work.
To be successful, you must be:
1) Very familiar with or have worked at a product manufacturer, product company or design service company (ME, EE, ID, SW) and understand the stages of doing products (Architecture, Prototype and Volume Production)
2) Very good at the traditional sales process of networking, lead discovery/follow-up and building consistent mind-share so your pipeline stays full, active and produces wins
2) Technically astute and geeky enough to understand technology and come to speed very quickly in preparation for a meeting with an engineering department
3) Closing-oriented: you can figure out the prospect's hot points, work with our internal sales/engineers to develop a penetration strategy, write a detailed winning proposal, present it to executives and sell it to signature

You will need to be savvy, extroverted, a fast learner of technology subjects, experienced, confident to hold your own in lots of settings and convey a consistently positive, professional attitude. Job search is for full-time employee with 4yr college degree (bonus for ME degree) and work experience in hardware technology sector. Company offers benefits, 401K and profit sharing.
