Would consider a nanny share situation.

Director- Crestwood Hills Cooperative Nursery School (Los Angeles, CA)

Crestwood Hills Cooperative Nursery School (CHCNS) is a progressive pre-school committed to the philosophy that young children learn through play. As a developmental preschool, we support each child’s unique personality, learning style and needs. We emphasize social and emotional growth, mutual respect, cooperation and problem-solving. Our school is nestled in a beautiful rustic setting in the Brentwood Hills, and the children have a wonderful environment in which to explore their curiosity and creativity. Our total enrollment is 73 children and we have a low student-teacher ratio of 5:1. We are a cooperative school, with active parent involvement, leading to a strong feeling of community amongst our staff and families. CHCNS is accredited by the NAEYC and licensed by the Department of Social Services. For further information about the school, please visit our website at www.crestwoodhillscoop.org

Job Description:
CHCNS seeks an experienced and dynamic Director to lead the school, now in its 56th year. With a strong reputation as one of the finest pre-schools in Los Angeles, Crestwood Hills endeavors to continue on its progressive path. Above all, the school is looking for a talented leader who can build on a strong foundation and steer a program at the forefront of current educational thinking. Compensation is competitive with comparable schools in the region.

Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Director will include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Directing and supervising the school’s educational program and administrative operations, including overseeing the implementation of the school’s philosophy by staff and parents;
•Supervising and training all teaching staff, consisting of 6 teachers and 3 aides;
•Teaching in one morning class and one afternoon class and overseeing all four classes;
•Taking responsibility for the orientation and assimilation of new member parents and children;
•Executing a parent education program, including monthly discussions on topics in child development;
•Being available for bi-lateral consultation by parents on issues related to the development and behavior of their child;
•Leading the school’s toddler program one day per week.

Qualifications:
•B.A. required, Master’s Degree preferred.
•A concentration in early childhood education with a minimum of 24 credits in ECE and at least 9 credits in administration, leadership, or management and 9-15 credits in basic psychology;
•Five to fifteen years progressively responsible experience in the field of early childhood education, as a teacher, director, therapist, or some combination of the above;
•Knowledge of and commitment to current theories of progressive early childhood education;
•Affinity for a cooperative school.

What makes Crestwood special:

Community: Crestwood Hills is a cooperative school that relies upon active family participation. Each family assists in their child’s class twice monthly and works four weekend workdays per school year to help maintain the school. Families also participate in membership meetings, fundraising events, and some serve as board members. Our board is comprised of approximately 20 parents who set policy for and assist in the daily operation of the school, including in the areas of approving the school’s budget, making purchasing needs, scheduling parent workdays, overseeing school upkeep and fundraising. The school also works in close association with the Crestwood Hills Homeowners Association, which owns the property in which the school is housed.

Teachers/Classes: The school benefits from a strong team of experienced and committed teachers, each of whom brings special skills and a commitment to Crestwood’s philosophy. Classes consist of approximately 20 children, and are staffed with two teachers, an aide, and two parent helpers. Our school offers partial-day preschool, and is divided into a morning and an afternoon program. There are two separate morning classes: one for children in the 3 year-old range, and another for children in the 4 year-old range. There are two separate afternoon classes: a mixed age class of 3 and 4 year olds, as well as an extended year class for 5 to 6 year olds. Each class is three hours in length.

Location: The school is located in Kenter Canyon next to a quiet park. It is a rustic, secluded environment where children can grow and thrive. Challenges and Opportunities: CHCNS supports the growth of parents, as well as children. Accordingly, the Director will have the opportunity to work on a larger than preschool scale, working closely with families and the outside community. This broad scope offers great opportunities for personal and professional growth; therein too, lies some of the challenge. In addition, the Director will have the opportunity to lead a school with an established reputation and find their own voice as leader of a community. A challenge will be maintaining the character of the school during the process of changing its leadership.

Site Manager – Rhode Island Model Staffing Initiative

Providence, RI

The New Teacher Project (TNTP) helps school districts and states fulfill the promise of public education by ensuring that all students—especially those from high-need communities—get excellent teachers. A national nonprofit organization founded by teachers, TNTP recognizes that although teachers matter more than any other school factor in student success, the nation’s education systems are not aligned with the goal of an effective teacher in every classroom. In response, TNTP develops customized programs and policy interventions that enable education leaders to diagnose their teacher quality challenges and find, develop and keep great teachers. Since its inception in 1997, TNTP has recruited or trained approximately 33,000 teachers—mainly through its highly selective Teaching Fellows™ programs—benefiting an estimated 4.8 million students. TNTP has also released a series of acclaimed studies of the policies and practices that affect the quality of the nation’s teacher workforce, most recently including The Widget Effect: Our National Failure to Acknowledge and Act on Differences in Teacher Effectiveness (2009). Today TNTP is active in more than 25 cities, including Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, New Orleans, New York, and Oakland, among others. For more information, please visit www.tntp.org.

We are currently seeking a Site Manager to lead the Rhode Island Model Staffing Initiative. The Site Manager will be a TNTP employee based out of Providence Public School District offices in Providence, Rhode Island. This position is available immediately.

The Program

The quality of the teacher is the biggest factor in determining whether or not students achieve at high levels. A report published by TNTP, entitled Missed Opportunities: How We Keep High Quality Teachers Out of Urban Classrooms, showed that urban school districts lose their high quality teacher candidates because they hire late.

The Rhode Island Model Staffing Initiative, a partnership between The New Teacher Project, Rhode Island Department of Education, and Providence Public School District (PPSD), works to address hiring challenges for all 55 schools in PPSD to ensure that these schools have the opportunity to hire the highest quality teachers possible through a criterion based hiring process. Additionally, the Model Staffing Initiative will undertake a new focus on supporting and developing principal and school hiring capacity by providing professional development and differentiated support to school administrators throughout the year, with a focus on identifying, cultivating, and hiring teacher candidates based on school fit. Through this partnership, the Model Staffing Initiative (MSI) program team provides high-touch, customized logistical support to both the school site and candidates during the hiring process, holds job fairs, and facilitates strategic staffing workshops through which school leadership teams learn to create a school specific criterion based hiring process in order to identify the most effective teacher candidates for their buildings..

Role and Responsibilities

The Site Manager is responsible for ensuring the successful planning and execution of the initiative. This position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to have a profound impact on how teachers are hired in PPSD. Specifically, the Site Manager will be responsible for the following:

•	Setting, monitoring and meeting ambitious goals that support the early hiring of high quality teachers and ensuring that all vacancies in MSI schools are filled by the first day of school
•	Meeting regularly with principals to monitor staffing progress and discuss current needs and challenges
•	Generating innovative solutions and strategies that allow principals to hire earlier and more effectively and meet needs identified for individual schools
•	Coordinating interviews and other hiring opportunities for teachers and principals
•	Developing and implementing an internet-based recruitment campaign to attract additional high quality teachers to the district
•	Engaging school district staff in ongoing problem solving to ensure that best hiring practices, including early hiring, can take place in MSI schools
•	Delivering professional development to principals and other school-based hiring staff to help them hire the highest quality teachers
•	Communicating regularly with teachers and principals and differentiating support services as needed
•	Guiding principals to implement best hiring practices by holding monthly and one-on-one skill development workshops
•	Maintaining data management systems and compiling weekly data reports for the initiative
•	Building and managing strong working relationships with district and school-based staff, and other stakeholders as needed
•	Working with the district to reduce or remove barriers to early hiring

This position reports to a Partner in the Staffing Initiatives business line and will hire and manage a Program Manager who supports the program implementation.

Qualifications

Chief Education Officer / Chief Learning Officer (Global School Network-Likely Boston base)

We are looking for a Chief Education Officer who seeks to become a global change agent in education by joining our education holding company which seeks to catalyze change across entire educational ecosystems by incorporating global best practices within schools. We have an active acquisition pipeline of schools which we anticipate buying and within which we will drive change/reform plans. We require a Chief Education Officer to join our "C-suite" group of executives who will be involved in most major decisions for the company – both educational and commercial. Your primary responsibility will include identifying existing global best practices in education (we are focused on K-12 schools and learning support centers) and working with our operations team in developing change/implementation plans to incorporate these best practices within each school in our network. You will also be responsible for creating and monitoring performance management and improvement systems for all professionals within the firm, for monitoring and implementing our program for continuing to drive positive innovation throughout our school networks and optimizing stakeholder engagement within each school (students, parents, teachers, administrators and local communities). You will also have significant oversight and accountability to our government relations function - particularly as we will be working with multiple governments.

Ideal candidates will have at least 10-15 years of aggregate experience - ideally both in policy roles and as educators and will have achieved significant levels of success in driving reform agendas. More importantly, candidates must be enthusiastic, committed to driving positive change in education while retaining the intellectual flexibility to allow education plans to be driven by evidence-based measures, comfortable dealing with uncertainty and committed to good corporate governance and consensus within the C-Suite after intense debate. Individuals with personal agendas, poor commercial sense, an inability to work with others in an intellectually charged climate and/or an aversion to conflict will not be successful. References will be required and rigorous background checks will also be conducted.

We are seeking to re-write how education is done globally and if you do have ambitions to be a global change agent in a positive, energetic environment, we look forward to having you join our team. We offer below a very brief synopsis of our firm and are very happy to discuss further with candidates whom we identify for an interview. Kindly note that, while we would like to get back to every candidate, it is likely that we will only be replying to candidates whom we would like to interview.

Interested candidates are requested to provide a CV, complete with references, and an anticipated timeline for being able to join our firm.

FIRM OVERVIEW

Our firm is an education holding company founded by several Harvard alumni which seeks to catalyze change across entire educational ecosystems by incorporating global best practices within schools. We are in the process of closing our first round of funding which we is expected to be done by the end of the first quarter of 2010 (current commitments from identified anchor investors range between US$100 and US$150 million, depending on term sheet negotiations). As a company, we are separated into three distinct divisions: Our business and management team (which includes our M&A team), our education/curriculum team (which you will lead) whose sole job it is to identify global best practices and work with our third division, our operations team (which you will also be a part of), on how to implement said best practices in each of our schools. The operations team will also include administrators in each of our schools. Our education model involves buying and reforming existing K-12 international schools throughout Asia and the Middle East (our current acquisition pipeline has schools in Malaysia, Turkey, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar). Our intent in owning and running these schools is to aggregate global best practices, with a significant focus on empowering teachers and incentivizing positive innovation. Whereas twenty years ago, this may not have been possible because of the dearth of rigorous research on what determines educational outcomes, today we believe we are substantially further along in defining many of the “core” issues, even as research continues at an extraordinary rate. Perhaps more crucially, we also believe that educational reform is a non-negotiable aspect to economic development and conflict prevention.

ANTICIPATED EDUCATIONAL PRINCIPLES

To the extent it may be helpful, we thought it may be useful to identify the key principles we currently believe to be crucial to a next-generation education. Many of these issues were identified for us by the private sector, which has delineated key concerns about its incoming pool of human capital in a number of studies, and by academics who have conducted research we have found persuasive in terms of its rigor, integrity and outcome. Our current thinking on key principles for reform (or inclusion), include:

1. Teacher Empowerment and Performance Incentivization: Teacher effectiveness is fundamental to the success of any school. We are spending an enormous amount of our time on what specifically we are trying to measure in determining “success” in teacher performance and are now struggling with “who” ought to do the measuring (students, parents, administrators and other teachers all have implementation considerations). What is clear, however, is the need to focus on giving teachers the room and incentives to engage in positive innovation while also installing rigorous measurement metrics to assess what/who is (and isn’t) effective.

2. Problem-Solving Abilities: Focus on experiential learning which improve skills and approaches to define and resolve “life-like” problems.

3. Leadership Skills: This involves not so much making everyone a “leader” as much as it is encouraging a proactive approach wherein problems are addressed without needing to be told that they need to be addressed.

4. Group Skills: As collaboration becomes increasingly important in the globalized workplace, group work will likely be emphasized. The form this takes will fall within your purview as Chief Education Officer.

5. Optimization Rather than Maximization: Whereas in many cases, extending school days and giving teachers more classroom time will be required, wherever possible we seek to focus on optimizing what is available in existing time and resources and avoid unnecessary additional time/resource burdens. (Note: This is also partially driven by our motivation to develop best practices which can be universally applicable – even outside our own network and in schools with limited resources).

6. Managing Technology: For many in the current generation of students, technology is ubiquitous in all that they do: Between computers (particularly the internet), television, mobile phones and game systems, an enormous amount of time is dedicated to USING technology. We seek to also empower kids with skills on how to MANAGE technology to improve personal effectiveness without having technology consume your life need to be incorporated. This inevitably involves incorporating technology throughout the curriculum.

7. Financial Literacy: Given the amount of time spent dealing with money in our lives, existing financial literacy regimes are woefully inadequate (if they exist at all). The basics of understanding money and investing will be taught which may ultimately extend into a full-fledged entrepreneurship development program; and

8. Incorporating Ethical Constructs: Without taking a position on what is right and wrong, TriMillenium is committed to asking students to at least THINK about what they themselves believe to be right and wrong.

Dependent upon the evidence provided, the above list is by no means exhaustive (or even sacred). If it is better to incorporate other factors (or to remove/modify one or more of the above considerations) we are happy to engage in that conversation as well.

Founded by Harvard alumni who believe that high-quality education should be made available to everyone, every where, we run a series of rapidly expanding learning enrichment centers who aspire to revolutionize the way education is provided to students around the world. While 20 years ago, we may not have known what worked in education, today we have mountains of research to show what does and doesn’t work. We are committed to bringing these world-class, evidence-based, educational concepts to students from the ages of 5 to 18 and are looking for people who are committed to excellence in helping students reach their maximum potential. We work very hard to maintain a culture where innovation and new ideas are encouraged and explored (regardless of where the ideas come from) and seek people who are both inspiring as well as seek inspiration in their daily lives to join us in changing the global landscape of education.

We believe that individuals are all unique and require customized learning programs for their individual needs. We do NOT apply a one-size-fits-all approach like most learning support centers do and need people who are comfortable and flexible in dealing with what can often be very fluid situations. Every student who walks in our doors will be evaluated anew and a completely customized program is developed for each of them. We believe that many of the ingredients required to excel in this position do not necessarily require a teaching degree or background (these ingredients would be enthusiasm, a degree from a great university, a desire to help others and a sense of adventurism) so please apply if you think you have these ingredients even if you don’t have a teaching background. Nonetheless, prior experience in teaching and tutoring will be considered a plus – particularly if its having worked with Gifted and/or Special Needs kids.

A glimpse at Korea:
Korea is a unique mix of sophisticated commercial centers and impressive, traditional attractions. A history and culture that goes back nearly 5,000 years coexists side by side with Louis Vuitton and Starbucks. An eclectic mix of mountains and rivers, majestic palaces, and ultramodern skyscrapers highlight the country's unique horizon.

Also known as the "most wired" country in the world, Korea is famous for its Internet connectivity and the leadership role it plays in the IT industry. As the 10th largest economy in the world, anyone can find just about anything in Korea. For example, English books and movies are readily available along with a variety of Western foods from take-outs to family restaurants.

For the adventurer, Korea's proximity to other Asian countries makes it an excellent hub for travel. Trips to Thailand, China, and Japan are the most common. Traveling within Korea is made easy by the clean, modern, and inexpensive public transportation system.

Why China?
The chance to experience 5,000 years of history while developing your career and skills in “The Middle Kingdom”, as the Chinese call their country, is an opportunity of a lifetime. You can explore one of the world’s most ancient civilizations and engage in the local culture as a welcomed insider (and get paid to do it). China has a thousand faces; from the Great Wall and serene deserts to urban centres bustling with bullet trains.

The most recent host of the summer Olympics, Beijing has sprouted new athletic facilities, hotels and restaurants that rival any in the world. An adventure awaits you down every city street and across the dynamic terrain that has something for every outdoor enthusiast. The Chinese are an amazing friendly people, who will no doubt welcome you with open arms.

They contribute to the success of the organization by working directly with students to reach short, mid, and long-term outcomes through three domains: addressing student needs by building relationships that promote personal/social development and life skills, aid in successful summer program placement and preparation, and ensure college/career-readiness.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Relationship-Building

•	Builds individualized relationships with students based on Summer Search’s mentoring model by utilizing listening skills, providing direct feedback, creating opportunities for introspection, and holding students accountable to what they are capable of achieving.
•	Organizes and coordinates small and large-group interactions: school lunches, sophomore and college workshops, and Spring/Fall Events.

Increasing Resiliency
•	Uses an internally developed model of assessment that identifies qualities of resiliency: Reflection, Altruism, and Performance (RAP).
•	Works with students in an ongoing way to develop those RAP qualities over time, noticing patterns of thinking and behavior.

School Attachment/College Readiness
•	Understands students’ full academic and extracurricular participation/performance in school, including attendance, relationships with teachers, peers, etc.
•	Understands college readiness requirements and works collaboratively with students and Summer Search’s college counselors to ensure they ultimately matriculate to post-secondary education.

Summer Program Preparation and Integration
•	Collaborates with Program Manager and Summer Program Coordinator to ensure that each student is appropriately placed on a trip that will challenge them and set them up for success.
•	Works with each student who has passed the four-week self-selection period to ensure that they are physically and emotionally ready for both their first and second trips, and works with each student to celebrate successes on their trips, reflect on learning opportunities and reintegrate their experiences through writing essays, weekly mentoring conversations, and group interactions with fellow students.

Program Data Tracking
•	Enters and tracks data accurately on a daily basis in Efforts to Outcomes student database, so data can be used to assess student progress, staff evaluations, and organizational learning.
•	Works with Program Manager and Senior Mentors to consistently assess and measure own results of program activities, and uses data tracking and analysis as a learning opportunity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•	Bachelor’s degree
•	At least two years of work experience after college strongly preferred
•	Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
•	Excellent organizational and project management skills

Come Inspire the Next Generation!

Inspirica, a premier provider of in-home tutoring and test preparation services, seeks highly qualified individuals for part-time, one-on-one tutoring positions. We prepare students for standardized tests (SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests, SSAT, ISEE, LSAT, GMAT, etc.) and provide academic support. We offer a highly supportive environment for both tutors and families, and our unique, collaborative approach lets you concentrate on teaching.

Prior experience tutoring standardized tests is not required, as all of our tutors complete an in-depth training program. Applicants must possess a college degree in any field as well as a mastery of math through algebra II, strong reading skills, and writing expertise — we are NOT looking for “math only” or “English only” tutors. Proficiency in additional academic areas (e.g., history, sciences, foreign languages) is a plus.

We are looking for tutors who will be in the Boston area throughout the 2010 calendar year, and, ideally, beyond. Also, prospective tutors MUST have time on at least one weekend day to tutor. Many of our families live outside of Boston itself, so a car is required.

Please submit a cover letter and resume detailing your academic history and any relevant experience. In the interest of security, attachments will not be opened without a cover letter in the body of the email.

We provide generous compensation, paid training, and travel stipends. See inspirica.com for more information about our company.
