Director Job Description

General Responsibilities:
Shapes the program, leads, mentors, coordinates, makes decisions, develops and maintains a quality early childhood program. The director is the first impression person. He/she must be cheerful, welcoming, knowledgeable and supportive to visiting families, enrolled families, teaching staff as well as administrators. A director is a proven leader and inspiration to the staff, and is willing to step in to any situation at any moment for the good of Pine Village Preschool.

Personnel Administration:

• Ensures the development and periodic review of a wage and administration program that insures similar remuneration for similar responsibility, education and experience.

• Ensures the adherence of Pine Village Preschool Inc. personnel policies and practices.

• Ensures program compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations covering equal opportunity employment.


Supervision:
• Develops supervisory standards for the program.

• Ensures adherence to standards.

• Directly supervises the teachers.

• Makes recommendations for salary adjustments, dismissals and promotions for employees in the program.

• Supervises the development of in-service training programs for the staff.


Public relations:

• Develops an atmosphere of support for the program within the community.

• Maintains liaison with community agencies, organization and ethnic groups.

• Assists local colleges and universities in teacher training and internship programs.

• Makes speeches, writes articles, and assists in the development of brochures and news releases.

Job Requirements:
• Bilingual/bi-literate in both English and Spanish

• Knowledge of children’s physical, emotional and developmental patterns.

• Knowledge of general learning theories and curriculum development.

• Ability to administer a program and budget.

• Evidence of professional skills in the areas of curriculum planning; in-service training; program goal setting; federal, state, and city funding sources; and establishing procedures for evaluating the progress of individual children.

• Ability to discern when enrolled children may need special medical or psychological services

• Ability in accessing outside agencies for referral and consultation.

• Ability to delegate authority judiciously.

• Articulate in making prepared and extemporaneous talks.

• Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.

• Highly demonstrated personal integrity.
