I just wanted to comment that I just had work completed on my house. (It seriously was falling apart) The main support beam was not properly installed when the previous owen built our house out of scrap materials.
Basically out support beam consisted of 2 2x4s on top of each other held up by a wall of 2x4s that were all rotted. Also the 2 2x4s that made the beam were cut in half so the dude could run the heating ducts through it. IT WAS ALL WRONG!!! Anyway we just had our house fixed the beam was replace and the sag in our house is gone. I wanted to let everyone know that if you need any work done to your house I would seriously consider METROWEST HOME REMODELING. The guys there were great. They worked around my schedule and just did a great job. Everything looks so good and I feel safe in my house. I dont feel nervouse that it could fall down at any moment. METROWEST HOME REMODLING is out of Franklin, MA. They also gave a great price for all the work I got done. I had 7 contractors come out and give me quotes. I know its a little in excess but I dont really have a ton of $$. Just thought I would post this as I know I come to craiglist to see what other peolple are saying maybe this will help someone. To those people sitting in cafes who have rudely asked me to "step outside" when I on the phone: GO TO A LIBRARY!!!!

Cafes are lively, noise-filled places where people have the right to freely converse on their cells for as long as they like without recrimination. Who died and made you the "noise police"? If you are so inconvenienced by your neighbor chatting on the phone THEN YOU LEAVE oh and yea GET A LIFE!

I specifically address myself to the annoying, 30-something-year-old-white-man sitting next to me today at the Atomic Bean Cafe on Mass Ave. You are probably the same annoying bastard that calls the cops on your neighbors at 1am on a Friday night for having people over. HOW LAME and if I haven't mentioned it before GET A LIFE!

People on cell phones should hopefully be respectful of how loudly they are speaking so as not to yell-- but as long as they are maintaining a reasonable tone of voice and even if they are not, speaking on a cell phone in ANY public place falls under Free Speech and if you are so bothered by it-- MOVE TO THE COUNTRY.

I am a recent graduate taking 2 years off before re-applying to medical schools next summer (i.e. to matriculate 2011). I am looking for others who are in the same position (at least the part about taking some time off before applying to med schools). Last year, I ended up with five waitlists, but not fortunate enough to get off of any one (oh the curse of the class of 2009...). I recently moved here for some basic sciences research work.

What I am looking for:

1) I still have to take the MCAT (in March 2010), and I don't plan on taking a prep course. I'd love to have a study buddy to help keep myself on course and not procrastinate until it's too late. Perhaps meet for a few months before the test date, 2-3 times a week somewhere in Boston to study (but definitely taking into consideration that some of us are working full-time...).

2) Even if you aren't up for the MCAT studying idea, I'd love to have someone to consult and vent throughout the application process. Having gone through this once, I know the whole application year was really stressful, I had a lot of questions, and I had to vent to someone who was on the same boat. Venting can be therapeutic, or even crucial to not drive yourself crazy! :)

3) I'm even looking for someone to volunteer with (at the hospital or elsewhere) -- it'd be more fun that way! Or other pre-med-ish opportunities like shadowing or pre-med resources...

If you are interested in ANY of the above, please email me! One request though -- only contact me if you're a serious, hardworking pre-med, not someone who's okay with submitting an AMCAS in September or procrastinate on secondary applications until November. I can get a bit OCD throughout this process (e.g. must ask for rec letters by Feb/March... must have a 99% final draft of the personal statement by May 1... etc).

In short: I'd love to meet other serious pre-meds in the early 20's, who are currently taking 1-3 years off and are starting to think more realistic about the upcoming application cycle. If this describes any of you in Boston (in Brookline preferably, but if reachable by MBTA, I'll consider further options like Cambridge and whatnot), please send me an email and tell me a little about where you are in the process!

In an effort to reach out to under-served populations, the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CARD) offers FREE diagnostic evaluations to Asian, African American, and Hispanic adults (age 18+, English speaking) who suffer from symptoms of anxiety or depression.

Affordable treatments are also available; in some instances, treatment services are free of charge.
