I have an electric guitar and an acoustic

Guitar needed for rock/punk band (Billerica)

We're a newly formed band that plays basic, punk influenced rock. Influences include Black Sabbath, Pennywise, NOFX, Ryan's Hope, The Freeze, Social D, Jawbreaker, Suicidal Tendencies, early Alkaline Trio and way too many others to bother listing. We've got a drummer, bass player, and a guitar player/singer. We practice about once a week in Billerica, and we're looking to start getting out and playing some shows.

We'll provide some rough recordings and additional details for those with serious interest.

We're looking for a guitar player. If you fit the bill, and you're interested, let us know.

- Competent (Occasional leads would be nice, but solid rhythm playing is a MUST).

- Fast learner (We've got about 10-11 finished songs).

- Decent gear.

- Reliable. If you have to miss a practice, don't make up something about bomb threats and saving burning orphans from hungry bears.

- Have your own transportation. We practice in Billerica, and most of us come straight from work, so don't count on catching a ride with anyone.

- Ability to take and give criticism without pouting, sniveling, throwing stuff, crying, etc. If you decide to be Queen for a Day, we will rag on you, kick you out, and probably sleep with your girlfriend. We're not a mutual admiration society.

- Age range. We range from 25-33. As for you, be over 21, and be comfortable hanging with people in that age range.

- We don't mind if you're straight edge, but we aren't. If you have a problem with folks having a few beers, this probably isn't the band for you. If you don't make a stink about us indulging, we'll get along fine.

It may not sound it, but we're all pretty decent at what we do, we're comfortable playing with each other, and we're committed to doing this as well as we can and having some fun doing it. Nobody expects this to be a money-maker, we just love playing.

If it sounds like your thing, email us at guitarnumber2@yahoo.com

I live west of Worcester & would like the other musicians to be as close as possible or willing to travel to this area for meetings & practice. MP3’s or links to video’s are welcome upon replying to this ad.
There is a market for this style music as long as we’re diverse & GOOD!

Looking For a Benevolent Simon Cowell? ($35hr) Vocal Coaching (Metro Boston and Beyond)

What makes a good vocalist a great vocalist? Very often it's very minute details in a particular performance that makes all the difference. For example, you could do an awesome performance and hit every note perfectly, but you need work on microphone technique or maybe you could have enuciated the words better. Sometimes when you watch a rendition of a song on "Idol" you'll say to yourself, "sounded fine to me". Then Simon will roll his eyes and tell the whole world how terrible it was. Is he wrong or does he just get off on being a jerk? The answer is no, at least for the first part of the last question. Simon is not in the business of giving people constructive advice. I am. There is much more to being a great singer than simply singing in key, having a passion for it etc. This is what I teach. I know from many years of experience, singing, and teaching singing, what it takes to bring your performance to a much higher level. It's almost impossible to be completely objective about your abilities. This is why people who are serious about singing get a vocal coach as a trusted guide to help them accomplish their goals.

WHAT I'LL TEACH YOU: From my experience I've encountered many people who've got great voices but what they lack is longevity. You can sing 4 or 5 songs but then you start to lose it. If your ambition is to sing 25 or 30 songs at a gig on a given night you need to learn exercises (just like an athelete)that will make your voice strong enough to do that.

You will learn vocal warm ups which are extremely important to keep from having vocal blow out. How to utilize your diaphragm for sustaining notes without losing your breath. I will teach you visualization techniques that will lend an authenticity to your perfomance. CONFIDENCE: I approach this issue in great detail as it seems to be common hurdle for many aspiring vocalist. and much much more.

I once did a gig where I blew out my voice. I literally could not speak in a normal voice after the show. I was informed if I did'nt get my vocal chords strong enough that the damage could be permanent. This got my attention in a hurry. I got instruction which literally saved my singing career.
Please do this for yourself. Learn what is proper technique to singing as opposed to winging it. Whether you study with me or a different teacher. GET PROPER INSTRUCTION!!! Nothing will bum you out more than to lose that gift. And remember it's a gift. Something inspired you to become a singer, don't blow it. Lots of people would do anything for the inspiration to become a singer.
Your already there. Take this opportunity now.

Educated at Berklee I have been singing for over 30+ years and teaching privately for 10 years. If you can't afford Berklee, I'm the next best thing.

The good news is that I will come to you. Better news is, it's affordable. Just $30 an hour. I'm very patient and understanding with the people I work with. I will never roll my eyes and put you down. Instead I will instill the confidence you need to sing like a pro. I will let you know where I feel your coming up short, only so you can work on it when your practicing on your own. Become the singer you want to be. Hire me as your teacher/coach and make magic happen. Tom 617-650-1742

The Stubbies blues jam continues this and every Monday. We're really excited to have Chris Fitz on guitar and vocals and John Bunszell on bass playing in the house band tonight. Chris Fitz will be joining us for the next few weeks, while our usual leader Matthew Stubbs tours the U.S. with the legendary Charlie Musselwhite

Music is a life skill that can be developed in a stress free, one on one environment so you can sing, play or write the music that inspires you with confidence. Lessons are customized to develop your individual learning style and are taught by an experienced teacher (adolescent, teen age and adult voice teacher since 1976 - pianist for over 50 years). As each person is unique, each lesson is created with valued input from both sides to produce satisfied results. Students from all ages and abilities are welcomed to learn and study Jazz, Pop, Country, light classical (for weddings, funerals etc) and Broadway. I'd be happy to discuss music appreciation as well if you need to get more info about a specific type/style/period of music. Expert on Jazz History, Popular Music and Classical music.

Female vocalist needed for 90s cover band (West Boylston)

A 90s Cover band, also doing some more contemporary songs if we really like them, is looking for a female singer to fill out our lineup. Preference will be given to people who can play keys, or someone who can play some guitar. If you can't play one or the other, you need to be open to learning some basics.

We're a lead singer with rhythm guitar and keys, lead guitar, bass, and drums. Have a practice space. The goal would be for another singer to take over some of the singing duties, especially on female-fronted songs (No Doubt, Evanescence, Garbage, 4 Non-Blonds, Alanis Morrisette, etc). We're not just doing rock, however; must also be willing to sing Brittney Spears, Pink, Christina Aguilera, Destiny's Child, etc (don't worry, I'm singing Gnarls Barkley, BAckstreet Boys, and Eminiem, so we're all singing goofy things).

The goal of the band is to learn some of the sings that we liked as high school kids, and really evoke a sense of nostalgia from the Boston barscene. So we're planning to do a lot of the really popular stuff, but also some of the songs that we've forgotten about. We want to be a very varied sounding band, hence the requirement for keys.

We plan to learn 3-4 hours of music and play a bar all night. Our hope is to gig out about twice a month, in Boston and Worcester.

Give us a shout if you're interested!

I'm a lead guitarist with years of experience in cover and original bands- rock, blues, and other styles. I can sing some lead and backup vocals, too. Excellent chops, collection of great guitars and amps, PA, reliable transport. I came up influenced by the greats- Hendrix, Page, Townshend, Beck, Santana, etc- as well as more modern guitarists like the Edge, Andy Summers and others. I play for the song and to support the vocal and overall sound, but can rip it up too, where it fits. Nice tones and tasteful use of effects. Slide guitar is one of my specialties. I've played a lot of blues too, and have a strong feeling for it, but don't like to limit myself to the blues.
I also have extensive experience in acoustic solo and duo work, and enjoy it. If you are a vocalist/rythym guitarist looking to work with a 2nd vocalist/acoustic lead guitarist, contact me.
I am a mature pro with lots of stage and studio experience. If you are just starting out, or are fixated on having a band that is exclusively under 40, please pass.
I look forward to hearing from you, thanks.

Jethro Tull Tribute Needs Keyboardist (Waltham)

Jethro Tull tribute "Jack Knife Barber" needs talented keyboardist to complete the band. We currently have 5 talented players in place and now just need our keyboardist to round out the field.
You must possess the necessary chops to cover all the piano & organ parts as well as some synth parts here & there. You will also need to have the necessary gear
to sound convincing - a minimum of two keyboards would be required as you'd be switching quickly from piano to organ or playing both simultaneously. A Leslie would also be
preferable in order to get that nice full bore organ tone.
And you must really truly enjoy playing this music - we don't want someone getting bored and leaving after 6 months!
Everyone has lives, so the ultimate goal here is to practice once a week then play a gig every month or two.
If you have what it takes and want to be a part of this experience then contact Rich at (781) 891-3787 and leave a message, or e-mail me at: cho28@comcast.net

Agree 100%, I would frequent the jams MUCH more often if they started earlier. Also not sure why the "host" band has to play a set first? It forces you to arrive early enough to get a seat, get on the list and then you have to sit through the host band...
Somebody ought to think about these things from the player's perspective...
The jams would pull players from further away too. Some of the Jams I would like to attend are 45 min away...much more easily done if they started earlier.

Drummer Looking to Start/Join Band (Worcester Area)

20 yr old drummer looking to start or join a band. I've been playing drums for 11 years or so; I've also played guitar for three years, although I'm no more than adequate at that. I also dabble a little with piano, but drums are my primary instrument. Ideally, I'd like to do something in the area of pop-punk; something influenced by bands such as blink-182, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Mayday Parade, All Time Low, etc. However, I listen to pretty much everything under the sun. Further influences include Rush, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin, Slipknot, The Who, Kanye West, Staind, Sublime, Nirvana, The Cure, Foo Fighters, Dinosaur Jr., KiD CuDi, The Beatles, Angels and Airwaves, 30 Seconds to Mars, Blue October, Bob Marley & the Wailers, Cat Stevens, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Descendents, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jay-Z, The Killers, The Matches, Coldplay, The Doors, Metallica, Pantera, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Used, Michael Jackson, you get the idea. Hell, even jazz and classical. An excessive list, I know, but the best way to represent the diversity of my tastes. I also write a lot of lyrics and compose a bit.

Anyway, I'm interested in doing this as a career. I have forgone college in the hopes of attaining a music career. I'm hoping to find other individuals who feel the same, but are interested in having fun. I've had too much of egos and drama with bands, with the music itself taking a back seat.

I have a practice space, transportation, and a contact or two in the area. I am willing to do anything and everything necessary to make a band work.

Will also consider fill-in work for the right group.

So I know this has been quite long-winded, but I hope I've grabbed someone's attention. I look forward to discussing our possibilities with you. Hope to hear from you soon.

I'm Jonathan Fixler, a full-time pro guitarist, with years of gigging and studio experience in rock, blues, and acoustic bands, as well as performing solo. Whether you are a young player who is just getting into the excitement of playing guitar, or a baby boomer who used to play when you were young and wants to get back into it, I can help you. Learn effective solo guitar (acoustic or electric) to accompany yourself singing, or get serious about your lead guitar chops, and develop your own style. The best lessons are ones where we are actually playing songs, and learning new fretboard structures and techniques in the context of rythym and flow. You understand what's going on at your fingertips, when you hear it working in the music, in real time. I will break things down and explain things in any detail you'd like, but most importantly, I will show and explain how it's actually physically played, on the instrument.

If your interest in learning to play guitar (or if you already play) is to be able to write songs then I'm the teacher for you.

Most approaches to teaching guitar are limited to having students learn to play popular songs they have already heard. Very few teachers can teach you how to come up with your own material. This is my specialty.

In the course of instructing you I will most defintely teach you how to play the cover songs you'd like to play. I feel that learning to play other peoples music is very important. But as an added benefit in my program I will explain how the writers of those songs came up with their musical ideas so you can learn how to do it yourself.

THE TYPE OF STUDENT THIS PROGRAM WILL BENEFIT THE MOST: Your interest is in being creative. You have something you want say and you'd like to express that in words and music. You want to be an original artist with your own distinct style. You hear songs you love and have a gnawing interest in how it all comes together. You'd like to perform your songs for others. Am I talking to you?

Study with me and you will learn:

Basic chords and as you advance more complex chord structures. How to play scales and the different types of scales there are so you can learn to solo.

Music theory, which is essential in learning to take your musical ideas to the next level.

In addition I will teach you how to keep a lyric journal. Ideas for songs can come at any time and you must have pen and paper ready.

I will also teach you how to develop your singing ability if that's also an interest of yours.

Also, I will show you how to care for your guitar, how to string it, how to buy one that's right for you, how to get gigs when your ready etc.

TO SUM UP: This is really a, learn to play guitar/songwriting/learn to perform

program. I cover all three. This is not something that is generally offered in a basic guitar teaching program.

So take advantage of this unique opportunity if you've got that creative urge that has just got to come out.

SOME PARTICULARS: I will travel to most locals in the BostonMetro area. My fee is a very reasonable $35 per lesson. (45 min.) I suggest students purchase a chord book and a guitar tuner before the first lesson. Open to any age and any level of playing ability.

MY BACKROUND: I attended Berklee College of Music as an instrumental perfomance major. I have been writing, performing and teaching music for over 30+ years. I have composed over 200 songs in my career, some of which have received radio airplay. I am currently in a working band that plays original music in which I wrote all the songs. I'm a very easy going person and I understand the patience required in working with new students. My basic intention is to share the gift of music with others which has opened many doors for me and has enhanced my life in countless untold ways. I look forward to hearing from you. Tom 617-650-1742 before 9PM please.
