Great Sax or Trumpet player, Keys needed for Funk/Blues group (Maynard)

We are a newly forming female vocal based funk/blues group designed to record and gig out at the available live music venues (bars, BBQ joints, clubs, etc.). We need a Sax or Trumpet player that digs blowing high energy bop style leads over a funk backdrop, and can play blues also. Keys player desired is jazzy, tasteful, has some cool sounds, and knows how to fit well with a guitar.

The players in this group are pretty knowledgeable and experienced. We need the great horn and keys players next. Rehearse once per week in my Maynard Studio to get the material down. This will be a quick ramp up, we don't want to spend a long time before we get this project out.

If you like the funkiest stuff from Electric Miles Davis, AWB, Rufus/Chaka Khan, EWF, TOP, James Brown, Maceo Parker, etc. along with a little good blues then this might be right up you alley.

check these links for an idea of some past sounds and a couple of the players:

Attn. musicians aged 12 to 120: COMPOSE YOUR SYMPHONY!! (Framingham/Boston Metro)

…Or opera, musical, “American Idol” power-ballad, string quartet, tuba sextet, or kazoo concerto—whatever strikes your fancy and expresses YOU!

I am a professional composer based in Framingham. I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory (BMus: composition), New York University (MFA: graduate music theater writing program) and the University of Southern California (grad diploma: scoring for motion pictures). I have worked in film and TV in Hollywood as well as opera and musical theater in New York City. I have also composed numerous works of concert music that have been performed all over the world.

I have run a successful teaching studio in MetroWest since August of 2006. While my instructional emphasis up until now has been in piano, I would like to branch more into teaching my first love, composition. I am hoping to put together a core group of aspiring composers with whom I will delve deep into the world of music composition. I will cover the “nuts n’ bolts,” nitty-gritty of composition as art and as craft, including (but not limited to) such topics as: notation, harmony, counterpoint, music history (repertoire), orchestration, nuances of writing for the voice, and stylistic diversity. I would also like to organize annual or possibly bi-annual concerts showcasing student work. Some compositions may also be showcased at student piano recitals.

Please send an Email telling me a little about yourself and your musical background, or the musical background of the potential student you have in mind. Proficiency on an instrument is helpful but not required. I will get back to you right away, and we can discuss how to make your musical dreams a reality. I can also direct you to my website which contains several examples of my work in diverse genres. My fees are reasonable and to an extent, negotiable, and I will consider traveling depending on individual circumstances.

I look forward to hearing from YOU, and becoming familiar with your music!

Us: immature, anti-corporate latter-30s (+ thereabouts) quality beer fanatics w/ free space and democratic (w/a lower-case d) attitude... grit/hard 70s, punk/alt, some art/noise, retro and prog leanings... elements of QOTSA, Motorhead, Tool, MOB, Megadeth, Talking Heads, Clutch, Cure, Clash... --if that makes any sense-- We are 2 guitars and vocals w/ message of informed, non-myopic, no-bullsh*t dissent ...not the buzzkill/in-yer-face variety; definitely pissed off; sometimes with humor. Warped humor, but humor nonetheless. Basically in the neighborhood of what the late great George Carlin said here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktIECyzf4YM&feature=related --though where George had completely given up on humanity, flatly labeling us "finished," (if you've seen his stuff towards the end, you know how bleak and dark he got)... our message is more positive: wake up, stand up and stop eating sh*t, before expressed dissent is legal grounds to get you labeled a Person Of Interest and shipped to a "Forest Labor Camp." --Although actually in such a way that the "message" can be easily missed if not looked for, and non-politically radical people (say, in a bar) can just like the stuff for the SOUND. Anyway, we are looking for creative/pro-active/aggressive players w/cool attitude/intelligent sense of humor/laid-back philosophies with a focus on the vibe and the music, not the typical BS... looking for quick study moment-players with good ears and who thrive on improv and creating... We jam a good amount and have a solid, substantial silo of originals ready launch (we are going for all original material... yes, you heard that right... the f*cking audacity-! yes my friend all originals wow we are crazy what will they do without "Sweet Child Of Mine"--??!!) as well as a short setful of solid, already developed material. Diverse influences from classic metal to 80s punk/wave to Zappa to Zep/Floyd/Lizzy to Pixies/late 70s/early 80s Boston underground scene type stuff and some contemporary acts that may be described in the same way... plenty more, open to new energy, input and direction(s)... Rehearsals in Marlboro (next to Framingham) Wed nights 7:45-11:00 or so.

Check out the 4 early songs (1st 4 we did btw) we recorded on the Myspace... www.myspace.com/resultofanxiety

Hard music nerds will not be attacked or hazed in any way and are totally welcome... even encouraged... and we don't give a crap about you having any specific "look" or "professional" anything (well, except gear) because this ain't a corporate f*cking job fair. We really want players who are all about just being right there in the moment and enthusiastic about making some meaningful, loud and unique art that is fun to play, and very cool to listen to for some (certainly not ALL-- thankfully!) We are no boy band, but we are not a bunch of old creepy burnouts either... we're saving that for our golden years.

I'm Jonathan Fixler, a full-time pro guitarist, with years of gigging and studio experience in rock, blues, and acoustic bands, as well as performing solo. Whether you are a young player who is just getting into the excitement of playing guitar, or a baby boomer who used to play when you were young and wants to get back into it, I can help you. Learn effective solo guitar (acoustic or electric) to accompany yourself singing, or get serious about your lead guitar chops, and develop your own style. The best lessons are ones where we are actually playing songs, and learning new fretboard structures and techniques in the context of rythym and flow. You understand what's going on at your fingertips, when you hear it working in the music, in real time. I will break things down and explain things in any detail you'd like, but most importantly, I will show and explain how it's actually physically played, on the instrument.

* 17 years teaching at the Brookline music school.
* Lead rock and blues guitar, SLIDE, solo guitar in open tunings... from electric shredding to acoustic fingerpicking.

How to play in the styles of:
Hendrix
Beck (that's Jeff, though Beck Hanson plays some cool stuff too, though not as challenging :-),
Clapton
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Robin Trower, The Edge, Andy Summers, David Gilmour, Santana, Warren Haynes!
Derek Trucks, Stones, Beatles, Pete Townshend! Angus Young! Michael Hedges!Willy Porter, The Pixies (I engineered their first recordings),
and many others.
* Lessons and goals based around the music YOU want to play.
* Relaxed and patient teaching style.
* Lessons given in a fully equipped recording studio- instruction available in arranging, production and recording techniques. I've also been involved as an engineer and producer on many Boston-based recording projects, including many recordings for the Pixies.

I am a 47 year old drummer and multi-instrumentalist with a modest recording studio in my basement. I'm looking to write and record dark and somewhat disturbing music with a guitarist whose playing is: heavy and articulate; showy and tasteful; aggresive and delicate; raw and over-processed; precise and spastic....
Your influences should include: Pete Townsend, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead......
I can only dedicate 2-4 weeknights a month to this project, usually from 7:00 - 10:00.
It would be helpful if you live near the Fitchburg area or don't mind driving there.
No Deadheads please.

If your interest in learning to play guitar (or if you already play) is to be able to write songs then I'm the teacher for you.
Most approaches to teaching guitar are limited to having students learn to play popular songs they have already heard. Very few teachers can teach you how to come up with your own material. This is my specialty.
In the course of instructing you I will most defintely teach you how to play the cover songs you'd like to play. I feel that learning to play other peoples music is very important. But as an added benefit in my program I will explain how the writers of those songs came up with their musical ideas so you can learn how to do it yourself.
THE TYPE OF STUDENT THIS PROGRAM WILL BENEFIT THE MOST: Your interest is in being creative. You have something you want say and you'd like to express that in words and music. You want to be an original artist with your own distinct style. You hear songs you love and have a gnawing interest in how it all comes together. You'd like to perform your songs for others. Am I talking to you?
Study with me and you will learn:
Basic chords and as you advance more complex chord structures. How to play scales and the different types of scales there are so you can learn to solo.
Music theory, which is essential in learning to take your musical ideas to the next level.
In addition I will teach you how to keep a lyric journal. Ideas for songs can come at any time and you must have pen and paper ready.
I will also teach you how to develop your singing ability if that's also an interest of yours.
Also, I will show you how to care for your guitar, how to string it, how to buy one that's right for you, how to get gigs when your ready etc.

TO SUM UP: This is really a, learn to play guitar/songwriting/learn to perform
program. I cover all three. This is not something that is generally offered in a basic guitar teaching program.
So take advantage of this unique opportunity if you've got that creative urge that has just got to come out.
SOME PARTICULARS: I will travel to you anywhere in the eastern part of Massachusettes or Southern New Hampshire. My fee is a very reasonable $30 per 45min of instruction. I suggest students purchase a chord book and a guitar tuner before the first lesson. Open to any age and any level of playing ability.

MY BACKROUND: I attended Berklee College of Music as an instrumental perfomance major. I have been writing, performing and teaching music for over 30+ years. I have composed over 200 songs in my career, some of which have received radio airplay. I am currently in a working band that plays original music in which I wrote all the songs. I'm a very easy going person and I understand the patience required in working with new students. My basic intention is to share the gift of music with others which has opened many doors for me and has enhanced my life in countless untold ways. I look forward to hearing from you. Tom 508-361-5396 before 9PM please.

Looking For a Benevolent Simon Cowell? ($30hr) Vocal Coaching (Metro Boston and Beyond)

What makes a good vocalist a great vocalist? Very often it's very minute details in a particular performance that makes all the difference. For example, you could do an awesome performance and hit every note perfectly, but you need work on microphone technique or maybe you could have enuciated the words better. Sometimes when you watch a rendition of a song on "Idol" you'll say to yourself, "sounded fine to me". Then Simon will roll his eyes and tell the whole world how terrible it was. Is he wrong or does he just get off on being a jerk? The answer is no, at least for the first part of the last question. Simon is not in the business of giving people constructive advice. I am. There is much more to being a great singer than simply singing in key, having a passion for it etc. This is what I teach. I know from many years of experience, singing, and teaching singing, what it takes to bring your performance to a much higher level. It's almost impossible to be completely objective about your abilities. This is why people who are serious about singing get a vocal coach as a trusted guide to help them accomplish their goals.

WHAT I'LL TEACH YOU: From my experience I've encountered many people who've got great voices but what they lack is longevity. You can sing 4 or 5 songs but then you start to lose it. If your ambition is to sing 25 or 30 songs at a gig on a given night you need to learn exercises (just like an athelete)that will make your voice strong enough to do that.

You will learn vocal warm ups which are extremely important to keep from having vocal blow out. How to utilize your diaphragm for sustaining notes without losing your breath. I will teach you visualization techniques that will lend an authenticity to your perfomance. CONFIDENCE: I approach this issue in great detail as it seems to be common hurdle for many aspiring vocalist. and much much more.

I once did a gig where I blew out my voice. I literally could not speak in a normal voice after the show. I was informed if I did'nt get my vocal chords strong enough that the damage could be permanent. This got my attention in a hurry. I got instruction which literally saved my singing career.
Please do this for yourself. Learn what is proper technique to singing as opposed to winging it. Whether you study with me or a different teacher. GET PROPER INSTRUCTION!!! Nothing will bum you out more than to lose that gift. And remember it's a gift. Something inspired you to become a singer, don't blow it. Lots of people would do anything for the inspiration to become a singer.
Your already there. Take this opportunity now.

Educated at Berklee I have been singing for over 30+ years and teaching privately for 10 years. If you can't afford Berklee, I'm the next best thing.
The good news is that I will come to you. Better news is, it's affordable. Just $30 an hour. I'm very patient and understanding with the people I work with. I will never roll my eyes and put you down. Instead I will instill the confidence you need to sing like a pro. I will let you know where I feel your coming up short, only so you can work on it when your practicing on your own. Become the singer you want to be. Hire me as your teacher/coach and make magic happen. Tom 508-361-5396

I am not from Boston. I don't know anyone here. I'm setting up roots here and I'm ready to get a band together. I don't do hard rock, I don't do covers, I don't do country. I want to start a alt-country, folk, folk rock, indy band. I want to record and perform. I'm sick of my day job. I have enough material for about 10-15 songs and the concepts in my head to put it all together. I'm looking to surround myself with muscicians more talented than me. I can write and sing and play guitar, but I'm not a guitarist. I'm looking for someone on the keys, bass, dualing lead guitars, and a singer or two that can do harmonies. If you like Josh Ritter, Tom Petty, DBT and you're around 30 and serious, email me. Male or female ... I don't care.

We are a popular cover band from the Waltham area that's been on about a 1 1/2 year hiatus and looking to regroup but need to replace both the keyboard and bass player. We only want to play out once or twice a month and do the same with rehearsals. So, if we can find a couple of musicians that don't need the "playing every weekend" thing (been there, done that), are experienced and have easy going personalities, this just might be the band for you. BTW, we're hoping to get this all put together to start booking by the Fall.

Intermediate and Advanced Drum Students Study With A Pro (Watertown)

Hello potential drum student. As you're surfing around looking for drum teachers, here are a few things to consider:

---Does the teacher have a good amount of experience both playing professionally and teaching professionally?

---Are they good at explaining things to both beginners and advanced students?

---How is their studio? Does it have two full drum kits, stereo, DVD/VCR or just the bare minimum?

---Is the location easy to get to by car as well as public transportation?

---Does the teacher offer a free trial lesson so you can check him/her out before comitting to paying for lessons?

---Are they flexible in terms of scheduling and what they are willing and capable of teaching?

---Are the rates reasonable and are you getting the most for your money?

My name is Steve Percoco. I can answer some of these questions for you about myself so you can compare my background with other teachers you are considering.

___I have 26 years of professional playing experience and almost 20 years teaching experience

___I am very clear in explaining things and very patient. My students feel comfortable learning new things on the drums.

___I teach out of my house where I have a finished basement with two full drum sets, a great stereo right behind the student kit so you can here everything, and a T-V set up in front of the drums when needed (explaining a drum video concept or to watch a drummer play a part that the student may want to learn).

___I'm located in Watertown which is very close to Waltham, Weston, Newton, Belmont, Cambridge, Sommerville, Brighton, Allston, Arlington, Needham, and Boston.

___I offer a free 30 minute trial lesson to all beginning students regardless of their level.

___I teach the basics at first meaning rudiments, warm-ups, and fundimentals of reading and coordination followed by an individualized program that is different for each student so that each and every student gets what they want without sacrificing technique and the fundamentals. I am also well versed in most styles of music including Rock, Jazz, Funk, World-Beat etc...

___My rates are $20 for 30 minutes, $30 for 45 minutes, $40 for 60 minutes and a reduced rate of $50 for a 90 minute lesson. I teach 7 days a week so that I can accomodate the variety of busy schedules of my students.

Give me a call or send me an e-mail to get started or if you have any further questions. My number is (617) 924-9129 or e-mail stevepercoco@yahoo.com

I have a nice teaching and rehearsal space in a music studio space in Arlington Center and Im interested in finding a fellow pianist and teacher who would like to share the space for a couple days a week. I teach at a school in the area on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and so I thought Id make the space available to others if they could use it on those days, either for practicing or teaching or both.

Im asking $175 for the month for just one day, or $300/month if you use it on both days. Utilities included. Ill take care of tuning the piano at least for now unless it becomes a problem in which case I might ask you to contribute something proportional to your usage.

Please email or call Aaron 609 731 5643 and we can talk.

Ever wanted to COMPOSE your own SYMPHONY?!! (Framingham, Greater Boston)

Drummer here in my 40's looking to just play more. I have my own punk band now but we only play bi-weekly and I just want to play more. Nice kit and easy going attitude so not looking for any drama.
I have played in bands doing Blues, Classic Rock, Punk Rock and am open to most anything. I can handle some back up vocals as well but on the raspy side..
Would like to stay in the area but who knows if it works out.
I am not looking to become the next big anything I have a fulltime gig (Tattoo Artist) now so this is not a money thing at all just about playing. Drinkers / smokers OK just don't go overboard.
I have a great space at the Mill Building in Littleton, MA, on 495 and 119, so it is easily accessible to students from several areas. I teach voice as well as musical theater camps in the summer, so I only use the space a few days a week.

I am looking for someone that may want to share the cost of the space, to teach a class or private students? Guitar, violin, chamber music, piano, (no drums, please) or what have you?

The space is great---about 1700 square feet, hardwood floors, big windows, and high ceilings. If interested, I can e-mail pictures. Contact Shawn at swaneesinger@gmail.com

I'm wondering if you are in the same position I am - living in metrowest and no close to home orchestra to play in. If this is true - send me your instrument, how long playing and your availability. I'm working on finding a conductor and determining what that possibilities are of starting a group. I'm a bassoonist and play with a few Boston area groups but really would like to find something in and around the Worcester, Sutton, Millbury area to play in.

I'm a rock singer/songwriter/frontman in my early 30's. Although I look more mid to late 20's. Looking for either an established band or musicians to form one. Have tons of experience, gear, image, and dedication. Don't care about what's in, or what's out. Making it big is no longer a priority for me. Just want to have some fun, play some killer shows, and kick people in the teeth!!! Looking to play straight-up heavy rock-n-roll, and nothing else!!! Infl: Stones, Aerosmith, Kiss, Cheap Trick, GnR, Crue, STP, VH, VR, NIN, Manson, Buck Cherry etc...

I am an older, very experienced and versatile, musician who has been away from playing for awhile but has stayed current with new country (my preference now) as an avid listener.

I play bass, lead guitar, pedal steel and sing back-up vocals and could get back up to speed fairly quickly. As you know, it never really goes away!

I have a family and a day job so this is not a full time situation for me - although I am intense about what I do and always expect a higher than average level of quality.

I am looking for the right fit on a part-time basis. Money is not an issue but delivering a quality product is.

Having a vocal-oriented group, with a strong female lead to match the male counterpart, and with a fiddle and/or keyboards thrown in, likely creates my ideal wish list.

I will be happy to reply to further inquiries by e-mail or telephone.

We are looking for a bass player. OK, we'll take a guitar player that plays bass.

We've got solid lead vocals (and some harmonies), keyboards, drums and 2 electric lead/rhythm guitars. If you have time once or twice a week to be part of a Christian band, then check us out. We're into electric... more rocked out stuff like Tim Hughes, Darrel Evans, Lincoln Brewster, Chris Tomlin, Tommy Walker, upbeat Hillsongs and Vineyard, Third Day, and maybe some Jeremy Camp and Kutless. Any age is fine, we're mostly 30 to 50. Your skill level is NOT important. We are intermediate to professional in skill levels. What matters is passion for Christian music and the message. Oh yeah, and your ability to show up regularly!

We rehearse every Sunday afternoon at a church in F'ham with a sound system. 12:30-2:00 We'd be open to another day and time if you have a place for us.

Yes, we have some opportunities to play out, and, we're interested in originals, and recording. So, let's get together.

I am a seasoned guitarist with pro gear looking to start or join a local band to play some covers and then maybe gig a bit when it works, and not on a Monday night in Boston opening for 4 other shitty bands. Influences are Kyuss, QOTSA, STP, Tool, Rush (Sabbath and Metallica of course) and even some other killer stuff like Mahavishnu Orchestra. I played in many of the boston area clubs with an original band.

I am looking to play out again after some time away from the club scene. I prefer to write originals, but like playing select covers. I am looking for a project or established band where having fun means having some goals, which means working to gig at least once a month. I have time to practice 1 or two times a week. I am specifically interested in a heavy melodic situation where the musicianship allows us to break down sections and jam to have a little fun.
