Hey I'm 27 I've been playing since grade school about 18 years. I'm looking for a band that has great energy and brings it where ever they go. I'm influenced by The Chili Peppers, 311, Incubus, Sublime, older Weezer, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Blink 182, Foo Fighters, No Doubt, upbeat musical rock/funk. I'm looking to practice twice a week and play out as the gigs come. I'm not ego driven and neither should you be, I want to just play music that sounds good and share it. I have reliable gear and a practice studio, I drink, no hardcore drug addictions. I work m-f and out by 3pm.

Hey, Do you want to improve your vocal chops? Learn extremely current styles?
Want to learn that crazy multi timbre scream / growl people are doing?
I can show you how.
Perhaps you want to sing like Steve Perry or Michael Jackson. Nice and clean with range?
Yup, I can show you just what to do.
Maybe you like Cornell, Plant or Staley. Deep rich throaty tone with crazy range.
I can show you the exercises to get there.
I didn't go to Berkley, I am however well trained.
I am just a normal guy who loves to teach people what I have learned and continue to learn.
You will also be learning scales and chords on piano at the same time if you wish.
Its kinda important for ear training.
You should be willing to practice. .
You will also be learning to develop your own style and creating melodys, lyric creation and more.
I have a soundproof studio so if your shy or a beginner there is little reason to feel uncomfortable.
Tell all your friends, Tell your singer, fast results with just the right exercises.
Not just scales.
No small kids please.
Oh yea, $30.00 for a strong hour if I drive to your place or $25.00 here
With just one lesson you will know enough to practice for a month if you wish.
For those of you who already sing and wish for an evaluation and a push in the right direction
I can show you.
So stop abusing your voice and learn the proper technique.
References upon request.
You should bring a notebook, the paper kind.
Thanks for your time

Guitar Lessons For Aspiring Songwriters $35 A Lesson (MetroBoston to 495)

If your interest in learning to play guitar (or if you already play) is to be able to write songs then I'm the teacher for you.

Most approaches to teaching guitar are limited to having students learn to play popular songs they have already heard. Very few teachers can teach you how to come up with your own material. This is my specialty.

In the course of instructing you I will most defintely teach you how to play the cover songs you'd like to play. I feel that learning to play other peoples music is very important. But as an added benefit in my program I will explain how the writers of those songs came up with their musical ideas so you can learn how to do it yourself.

THE TYPE OF STUDENT THIS PROGRAM WILL BENEFIT THE MOST: Your interest is in being creative. You have something you want say and you'd like to express that in words and music. You want to be an original artist with your own distinct style. You hear songs you love and have a gnawing interest in how it all comes together. You'd like to perform your songs for others. Am I talking to you?

Study with me and you will learn:

Basic chords and as you advance more complex chord structures. How to play scales and the different types of scales there are so you can learn to solo.

Music theory, which is essential in learning to take your musical ideas to the next level.

In addition I will teach you how to keep a lyric journal. Ideas for songs can come at any time and you must have pen and paper ready.

I will also teach you how to develop your singing ability if that's also an interest of yours.

Also, I will show you how to care for your guitar, how to string it, how to buy one that's right for you, how to get gigs when your ready etc.

TO SUM UP: This is really a, learn to play guitar/songwriting/learn to perform

program. I cover all three. This is not something that is generally offered in a basic guitar teaching program.

So take advantage of this unique opportunity if you've got that creative urge that has just got to come out.

SOME PARTICULARS: I will travel to most locals in the BostonMetro area. My fee is a very reasonable $35 per lesson. (45 min.) I suggest students purchase a chord book and a guitar tuner before the first lesson. Open to any age and any level of playing ability.

MY BACKROUND: I attended Berklee College of Music as an instrumental perfomance major. I have been writing, performing and teaching music for over 30+ years. I have composed over 200 songs in my career, some of which have received radio airplay. I am currently in a working band that plays original music in which I wrote all the songs. I'm a very easy going person and I understand the patience required in working with new students. My basic intention is to share the gift of music with others which has opened many doors for me and has enhanced my life in countless untold ways. I look forward to hearing from you. Tom 617-650-1742 before 9PM please.

Lead vocals/guitar/harp looking for a versatile guitarist to form duo. My goal is to have this be a working situation where we are booked to perform as much as possible. Pretty much every weekend. I AM doing this for the $$$. Not looking for someone who has music as a hobby. You might still have a day job, I do. But you've got it worked out so your available to do this on a serious level. Music/performing is a BIG part of your life.

The right person will be highly motivated to work up a fairly large number of songs quickly.
You should love classic rock and blues. Anything you might hear on ZLX that can be pulled off unplugged will be fair game. This is just the general direction. I'm open to all kinds of tasteful music. I would also like to incorporate into the act, original material as well.
I'm looking to put this together during the winter months(rehearsing, recording, website development, etc.) and be out there gigging by early spring.
If this sound interesting to you I'd like to hear from you. Thanks for reading.

Looking For a Benevolent Simon Cowell? ($35hr) Vocal Coaching (Metro Boston and Beyond)

What makes a good vocalist a great vocalist? Very often it's very minute details in a particular performance that makes all the difference. For example, you could do an awesome performance and hit every note perfectly, but you need work on microphone technique or maybe you could have enuciated the words better. Sometimes when you watch a rendition of a song on "Idol" you'll say to yourself, "sounded fine to me". Then Simon will roll his eyes and tell the whole world how terrible it was. Is he wrong or does he just get off on being a jerk? The answer is no, at least for the first part of the last question. Simon is not in the business of giving people constructive advice. I am. There is much more to being a great singer than simply singing in key, having a passion for it etc. This is what I teach. I know from many years of experience, singing, and teaching singing, what it takes to bring your performance to a much higher level. It's almost impossible to be completely objective about your abilities. This is why people who are serious about singing get a vocal coach as a trusted guide to help them accomplish their goals.

WHAT I'LL TEACH YOU: From my experience I've encountered many people who've got great voices but what they lack is longevity. You can sing 4 or 5 songs but then you start to lose it. If your ambition is to sing 25 or 30 songs at a gig on a given night you need to learn exercises (just like an athelete)that will make your voice strong enough to do that.

You will learn vocal warm ups which are extremely important to keep from having vocal blow out. How to utilize your diaphragm for sustaining notes without losing your breath. I will teach you visualization techniques that will lend an authenticity to your perfomance. CONFIDENCE: I approach this issue in great detail as it seems to be common hurdle for many aspiring vocalist. and much much more.

I once did a gig where I blew out my voice. I literally could not speak in a normal voice after the show. I was informed if I did'nt get my vocal chords strong enough that the damage could be permanent. This got my attention in a hurry. I got instruction which literally saved my singing career.

Please do this for yourself. Learn what is proper technique to singing as opposed to winging it. Whether you study with me or a different teacher. GET PROPER INSTRUCTION!!! Nothing will bum you out more than to lose that gift. And remember it's a gift. Something inspired you to become a singer, don't blow it. Lots of people would do anything for the inspiration to become a singer.

Your already there. Take this opportunity now.

Educated at Berklee I have been singing for over 30+ years and teaching privately for 10 years. If you can't afford Berklee, I'm the next best thing.

The good news is that I will come to you. Better news is, it's affordable. Just $35 an hour. I'm very patient and understanding with the people I work with. I will never roll my eyes and put you down. Instead I will instill the confidence you need to sing like a pro. I will let you know where I feel your coming up short, only so you can work on it when your practicing on your own. Become the singer you want to be. Hire me as your teacher/coach and make magic happen. Tom 617-650-1742

I am an experienced singer/lyricist looking for a music project to work on. You could be an individual songwriter with material that you want to add your own vocal/lyric ideas to but don't have the pipes or someone that has songs and wants to collaborate on vocal melody & lyrics... or a band situation.... whatever. I do prefer working with musicians in their thirties and early forties, nothing against twenty somethings just want to be on the same page. I am mostly inspired by sparse or melodic songs with a dark, "brooding" or harder edge to them. Not interested in cover songs or singing lyrics about politics or environmental issues. Prefer personal issues, relationships, dark nursery rhyme type material. If you know what I'm talking about, then you know what I'm talking about. A few singer/songwriters I admire...P.J. Harvey, Jeff Buckley, Beth Gibbons of Portishead, Radiohead etc. Want to be able to click on a vocal sample? That WOULD be nice....no clue how to set that up. I do have plenty of material on CD though that I can pass along to you if you want. Interested? Reply, we'll see what happens.

We mostly do covers because we can all write music, but not good with lyrics. Basically, we're looking for someone who can practice 1-3 times a week, wants to get to the point of playing shows/recording, and likes/can play songs we're already covering:
Everything Went Numb - Streetlight Manifesto
Misirlou - Dick Dale
That's just to name a few. We have some original stuff waiting for lyrics and some songs that have been started and not finished. If you're interested, email with your name and location and if you can sing/write.

Female Keyboardist?..but have no gear/no time?So maybe you read my previous ad but said..Sounds like fun but I don't have the $$$ right now to get gear.....
Or....like the genre but all I know is Bach or Karen Carpenter!!! Or geez the husband hardly lets me get out to do food shopping!! a night out
with dudes playing music? It will never happen.

All of these concerns wash away with this project.

Metrowest Beatles, British Invasion and sometimes Surf Instrumentals is looking to add a female
Rock keyboardist to the line up to expand the sound palette.

We are a new band of experienced gigging musicians in our 40s-50's. This is a side project for everyone in the band. So
its OK if you are in another band too. We rehearse in Ashland about 2-3 times a month now while we build the set list.

We hope to bypass the bar scene and do specialty and GB gigs only on a selective basis.
We need someone to add rock keys strings, horns, harmonica etc to our sound. Adding percussion or harmonies
in songs without keys as well.

We have a Roland synthesizer with over 4000 sounds in the studio. If you are gearless
your welcome to use it for rehearsals and gigs. Learn the material at your pace. Join us for gigs when YOU're ready.
Make our very infrequent rehearsals fit your schedule. Layed back married and professional guys will make you feel
comfortable and welcome...just want to make great music.

Why female? I am trying to build a band similar to a west coast tribute
band I like and want to emulate over here.

Please respond with brief bio and links or recordings if possible.

READ ALL OF THIS!

WINTER WRECKS FRETTED INSTRUMENTS... REALLY! No, this is not some scare tactic to make us money. Due to the recent humidity drop, your axe's wood literally shrinks! Unfortunately, the frets, finish, bindings, and the glue that holds it together won't. HERE'S WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR... Cracking wood, finish cracks, bindings and purfling coming loose, glue letting go, neck warp and a bad hump occurring at the 12th-14th fret, input jacks and pots loosening, sharp fret edges sticking out, lifting frets, electronic problems, sever fret canceling (dead spots), and intonation issues.

PLEASE be smart and bring your prized instrument in NOW to help combat this. We will lock-in moisture into the exposed woods with special oils and rehydrate your instrument BEFORE expensive damage occurs. Please ask for the "HYDRATION SET-UP".

Self-Care Practices For Musicians (Arlington)

Exercises for keeping your hands and fingers nimble, loose and open, and your arms, shoulders and back relaxed. This will allow you to practice and perform longer without developing repetitive stress injuries in your hands, wrists and forearms, or back and neck tension or other problems that will diminish your performance ability, shorten your musical career or enjoyment, and interfere with other aspects of your life.

No matter what instrument your play, your primary instrument is your body. If it doesn’t function optimally, your music won’t be at its best either. Guitar, bass, and keyboard players all have similar challenges in avoiding repetitive stress injuries, carpal tunnel, tendinitis, and neck, back, and shoulder problems due to repetitive movements and performance posture. Guitar and bass players face an additional burden from the weight of their instruments. Drummers can have similar issues, and others arising from percussive impact.

I’m a bass player and a doctor of Chinese medicine, in the alternative health field and a teacher of taiji and qigong for about 25 years. I’ve treated many musicians with various types of repetitive stress and related injuries. If you’re relatively young, you might not notice the early signs of damage being done. The majority of musicians really start noticing problems in their 40s, but I see many people in their 30s, and even some in their 20s. While many of these problems can be reversed after they occur, prevention is always better than cure.

The very best things people can do preventatively and for overall health maintenance are taiji and specific types of qigong, but few take the time to learn those more complex methods well enough to be of real benefit. I’ve distilled the best simple self care exercises from numerous systems into a program that can be taught to you fully in just two hours, and even a one hour session will be of great benefit. This is not intended to be a whole body self care program, but only targets the areas that get most physically stressed from playing stringed instruments, keyboards, and percussion.

Singers and horn players, I can also work with you and tailor a program to fit your needs. Among other things, that would include specific breathing practices not commnly taught by vocal coaches and horn instructors.

Once learned, ten minutes or so each day is all you need. Invest one or two hours of your time now for a lifetime of benefit!

Individual Rates
$90 for one hour
$150 for two consecutive hours

Group Rates
Deduct $10 for each additional person down to a group of five or more, after which the rates remain at:
$45 per person for one hour
$80 per person for two consecutive hours
