Ever go by the Charles and wish you were on one of those boats going down the river? The Dragon Boat Club of Boston welcomes new men and women to expand our competitive crews and invite anyone looking for a good workout or a fun new outdoor activity to try a free trial practice on our two authentic dragonboats practicing on the Charles for races in Boston and throughout the northeast. Swing by the Hatch Shell docks and experience the thrill of the race yourself. Our rosters are full for next month's Pawtucket race but we still have spots open for the Philadelphia race.

Congrats to our crews who raced at the June 8, 2008 Boston race on the Charles where we defended our spot as the top Boston team for the third straight year and as well as our Heatwave women's crew and Drachenfurie mixed crew who just returned from this weekend's Montreal race bringing home First Place in the Mixed Premier Division F Finals!

What is Dragonboating? It's like a cross between canoeing and crew, but in these giant twenty man fiberglass boats. This is us in Montreal pulling out a narrow win (we're in lane one):

The Dragon Boat Club of Boston, a Boston dragon boat team with multiple crews practicing from the Hatch Shell docks on the beautiful Charles River Esplanade, continues it's 7th year of racing in Boston, Montreal, New York, Lowell, Philadelphia, Pawtucket, Hartford, and San Francisco. If you're looking to meet some new people in their 20's and 30's and get some good upper body exercise we'd love to have you come out for a free practice to see if we're for you. Ability to swim is not required - we provide life jackets and all other equipment. Not a gym rat, outrigger paddler, or ever been kayaking? We can get you into shape and ready for your first race within a couple of practices. Our crews who raced in Boston had a lot of new faces that joined this season and they're going for more action in Toronto. All race signups are voluntary - travel the east coast this summer or stay on the Charles - your choice!

I was an avid runner up until 3 years ago and as life got too hectic (and my running partners got pregnant or moved away) it is the thing that fell by the wayside. The most know person in Sun Gazing is Hira Ratan Manek, his formula is simple: either at sunrise or sunset (when the intensity of the sun is at its minimum) stand on the earth and stare directly at the sun for 10 seconds. Adding an additional 10 seconds to the total sungazing time each consecutive day. In 6 months your hungers would be under control and understood. Stand there for 10 months you would never need food again. Not only that, but, you would not have to stare at the sun again. After 44 minutes of sungazing one would be 'full', energized, just like a solar charged battery. There was no need to continue the practice. Adventure racing is a combination of two or more disciplines, including orienteering and navigation, cross-country running, mountain biking, paddling and climbing and related rope skills. An expedition event can span ten days or more while sprints can be completed in a matter of hours. There is typically no dark period during races, irrespective of length; competitors must choose if or when to rest.

Lengths
Sprint: typically a two to six hour race, featuring minimal navigation and occasionally involving games or special tests of agility or cunning.
12-Hour: a six- to twelve-hour race, featuring limited navigation and orienteering.
24-Hour: a race lasting between 18-30+ hours, typically involving UTM-based (Universal Transverse Mercator) navigation. Often basic rope work is involved (e.g., traverses or rappels). 24-hour and longer races often require that competitors employ a support crew to transport gear from place to place. With the NFL season nearing, RNG Football is ready to roll out our 20th flag football season. The competition only gets better and this fall looks to be our best yet. It just doesn�t get any better than playing your own game in the morning and getting home just in time to watch the NFL games on Sundays.

RNG hosts 3 levels of play for teams of all abilities. Our 5 on 5 no contact league is by far the most competitive in all of New England. Instead of playing pick up games with your buddies come join the most organized, competitive, and established league around. Ask anyone who plays in RNG and they'll tell you that you will not find a better league anywhere else. Pays season ticket holder need not to worry, we can schedule your flag football games so that they will not interfere with your tailgating fun.

Semi contact league starting this fall: There are many of you out there that crave the contact missing from our 5 on 5 offerings. This fall, RNG is proud to announce that we will be offering a 7 on 7 semi contact style of play. We will be limiting the number of teams to 12 in a one conference-two division format. Many of the rules from our 5 on 5 league will remain the same with the exception of open hand blocking & offensive and defensive lines. RNG is looking forward to working with teams that sign up for our inaugural semi-contact season in order to design a league that the players want. Help us create the league YOU want to play in.

Games Start 9/14/08: We are looking to start things off with our seasonal combine / league meeting one week before games begin. All payments will be due in full at the combine, Sunday September 7. If your team does not wish to send a team representative to take care of the league fees on the date of the combine, you must mail in your registration fee and forfeit bond so it gets to us no later than September 7. You risk losing your team spot if you do not take care of all registration fees by the combine.

Game Times: Games will be played from 8:00 to 3:00 each Sunday. Teams may request game times throughout the season and we have always been able to accommodate Pats season ticket holders.

Costs: The registration fee for our 5 on 5 non contact league will remain $475, for our new semi contact league team registration is $500. We also require a $150 forfeit bond that the league will return at the end of the season or roll over to our next event as long as your team does not incur any fines throughout the season.

Field Locations: Our confirmed fields for the fall 2008 season are Moakley Park in South Boston and Barry field in Charlestown. All semi contact games will be played at Moakley.

Number of teams: Space is limited to 48 total teams (8 per division) for our 5 on 5 league and 12 total teams for our semi contact league. Team spots are given on a first come-first served basis in order of $150 reservations received. It is more important than ever to make sure that your team captain takes care of registering and paying all league fees BEFORE the combine.
